NTEP: Startup of New Steam Boiler System Scheduled for Sept 5th – Sept 8th

The newly installed North Thermal Energy Plant (NTEP) steam boiler system that services the ART, BB, BOS, BSB, BSE, CC, EB, FLN, JPL, Main, MH, MS, PE, RWC and UC is scheduled to be started up in phases between Tuesday, September 5, 2017 and Friday, September 8, 2017.  During the process, fluctuations in steam supply pressure and potential intermittent outages of approximately five minutes or less (per hour) may impact cage washer and autoclave operations.  West campus buildings, domestic water heating for showers, dishwashers and washing machines and heating hot water for building environmental heating will not be affected.  For additional information contact the Facilities Services Center at 458-4262.


AET Exhaust Fans: Maintenance Scheduled for Sept 7th and 8th

Exhaust fans that service the AET will be shut down on Thursday, September 7, 2017 and Friday, September 8, 2017 between 5:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. for maintenance.  The outages are not expected to impact daily operations as only one unit a time will be shutdown.  No other utilities including electrical, air conditioning and exhaust to fume hoods will be impacted.  For additional information contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.


Facilities Preparations for Hurricane Harvey

In anticipation of inclement weather associated with Hurricane Harvey, Facilities is preparing for heavy rains and high winds.  Crews will be sandbagging flood-prone areas, securing outdoor furniture, cleaning storm drains, and taking other actions to protect the campus and UTSA community.  Departments that have outdoor signs around campus, such as A-frame and yard signs, and any other loose items should bring them indoors immediately to prevent damage.

With the potential of water leaks in certain buildings, Facilities will provide plastic coverings to protect university equipment and property.  If you need plastic coverings, please go to the Sombrilla on Friday, August 25, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  A Facilities representative will be available to issue the plastic sheets.  Individuals at the Downtown Campus should visit the Downtown Campus Facilities Maintenance Office in the basement of the Buena Vista Street Building.

Intersection at Ximenes Avenue and UTSA Boulevard Closed this Afternoon at 2:00 p.m.

The intersection, both inbound and outbound lanes, at Ximenes Avenue and UTSA Boulevard will be shut down for three hours beginning at 2:00 p.m. this afternoon, Monday, August 21, 2017, for urgent asphalt repairs.  The intersection will reopen this afternoon at 5:00 p.m.  Alternate access to and from the south side of campus includes Barshop Boulevard at UTSA and Bauerle Road at UTSA.    For additional information contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.

 


BSE: Exhaust Fans Shut Down for Maintenance Week of Aug 21st

The exhaust fans that provide conditioned exhaust to all the BSE fume hoods will be shut down, one at a time, in short intervals between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon during the week of Monday, August 21, 2017 and Friday, August 25, 2017.  The shutdowns are not expected to impact daily operations and all other services including fume hoods, electrical and air conditioning will remain operational and available for use during the outages. BSE: Air Handler Units Shut Down for Maintenance Week of Aug 21st

The air handler units that service all floors of the BSE will be shut down for maintenance from 4:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. between Monday, August 21, 2017 and Friday, August 25, 2017.  The outages are not expected to impact daily operations as only one unit at a time will be shut down.    The unit that supports the Vivarium is not part of this work and will not be affected by the shutdowns.   For additional information contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.

 


Ximenes Ave. and BK5 Lot entrance changes at UTSA Blvd.

In conjunction the City of San Antonio’s road construction on UTSA Blvd, two entrances to the Main Campus have been realigned with significant changes.  The Ximenes Ave. entrance has been reconfigured to one inbound lane and two outbound lanes (right turn only and left turn only).  The Brackenridge Ave. Lot 5 entrance was moved to the east of its previous location and contains one entrance lane, two exit lanes (right turn only and left turn only), and bike lanes.  Both entrances will be open with the new configurations on August 21, 2017.  For additional information, please refer to the attached maps or contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.

Tobin Ave. Lane Closure – August 10, 2017

A portion of the eastbound lane of Tobin Ave., behind the Road Runner Café, will be closed from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on August 10, 2017, for work associated with new Tobin parking lot. The westbound lane will remain open and flag staff will be on site to direct vehicular traffic. The road will reopen to two lanes immediately following the completion of work. DTC: Temporary Closure of Frio Street Entrance to Monterey Lot

The City of San Antonio will be closing the Frio Street entrance to the Monterey Lot from August 16, 2017 until August 21, 2017 for work related to their Frio Street construction project. During this time, employees will need to enter the Monterey Lot via the new Buena Vista Street entrance. Main Campus: SEB Construction Updates

Construction of the new Science and Engineering Building (SEB) continues through the start of the fall semester.  The greenbelt east of the BSE and adjacent to the ART, service drive entrance at the ART and portions of Bauerle Road Lot 1, Ford Avenue Lot and Ximenes Avenue Lot remain closed.  Beginning August 21, 2017 access to Paseo del Sur via south of campus, nineteen additional parking spaces in the Bauerle Road Lot 1 and twelve additional parking spaces in the Ford Avenue Lot will be available.  Pedestrian signage including directional, detour and alternate ADA route, to and from the plaza level via the ART elevators, have been installed throughout the construction site.  Temporary sidewalks have also been installed along Bauerle Road between the ART and Paseo del Sur to assist with pedestrian detours.  All closures will remain cordoned off with construction fencing.  For additional information, please reference the attached map or contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.

Ximenes Avenue at UTSA Boulevard Closed Aug 16th

The Ximenes Avenue intersection, both inbound and outbound lanes, at UTSA Blvd. will be shut down on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 from 7:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. for the final phase of realignment work.  Alternate access to and from the south side of campus includes Barshop Blvd. at UTSA Blvd. and Bauerle Rd. at UTSA Blvd.  The intersection will reopen on Aug 16th at 5:00 p.m.  For additional information, please contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.

Main/DTC/ITC: Required Elevator Inspections Scheduled for Aug 3rd – Aug 11th

Elevators located throughout the Main, Downtown and Hemisfair (ITC) campuses will be shut down for approximately ten (no more than thirty) minutes each between August 3, 2017 and August 11, 2017 as part of the annual inspection as required by the State of Texas.  Only one elevator at a time will be shut down.  Inspections in buildings with only one elevator including the CC, PE, ART, TAG, BOS and the DTC garage will be performed during off-peak times.   For additional information contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.
