Current Construction Notices

x  Removal of Temporary North Paseo Walkway
The temporary walkway located east of the NPB (North Paseo Building) construction site is being removed to make way for a permanent walkway that will be installed between June 12, 2014 and August 8, 2014. During this time pedestrian traffic will be temporarily re-routed via signage (detour pathway) posted in and around the UTSA Oval area. For additional information reference the attached drawing or contact Facilities Work Control at 458-4262.

x  Influx of Beetle Bugs on UTSA Campuses
Our recent wet weather not only brought much needed rain to the San Antonio area but also an influx of the beetle bug. The scientific name for these pesky bugs is pterostichus melanarius, although they are more commonly known as black ground beetles. The ground beetle is attracted to lights and can be more numerous at night. They generally surface following heavy rain and flooding to feed on insects and though harmless to humans they can be a nuisance. To help manage the influx, Facilities is working closely with the pest control contractor to treat the exterior of all campus buildings: an effort that may last at least another two weeks. After that, the ground beetles are expected to disappear as quickly as they appeared. For additional information please contact Facilities Work Control at 458-4262.

x  Tri-Campus Fire Suppression Systems Inspections
The annual tri-campus fire suppression systems inspection, as required by the State Fire Marshall's Office, is scheduled from September 2013 to August 2014. Below is a schedule by building and date that includes scheduled work from September 2013 through March 2014. A follow-up notification will be send once work has been scheduled for April 2014 through August 2014. Testing and inspection of the systems will be performed during normal business hours between 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and are not expected to impact daily operations. For additional information contact Facilities Work Control at 458-4262.

The greenbelt located east of the Plaza Norte and south of the Thermal Energy Plant will be closed-off from October 8, 2012 to October 1, 2014 for construction activity related to the new North Paseo Building (NPB). The sidewalk leading from the greenbelt to the Oval bus stop, BRG, MB, BB, JPL, MH, UC, Plaza Norte and surface parking lots on the east of the campus will not be accessible during the closure. Pedestrians will need to use a temporary detour path through the Tobin Avenue Garage. Signs will be posted throughout the work area to assist pedestrians along the path. UTSA Water Restriction & Conservation Plan - Stage II

Stage II Water Restrictions went into effect in San Antonio, on April 30, 2012. All restrictions from Stage I remain in effect, unless added to or replaced by Stage II rules. According to the San Antonio Water System (SAWS), the agency that restricts and regulates water usage for the City of San Antonio, stage II goes into effect when the Edwards Aquifer goes below the 650 foot level. Changes in Stage II restrictions include new allotted watering times between 7:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m. In support of water conservation and environmental stewardship, UTSA will implement the following measures:

  • All UTSA campuses including the Main Campus, Downtown Campus and HemisFair Park, will be restricted to one day per week watering on Mondays between 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
  • Athletic and sports fields are considered special use areas and additional watering day variances are requested and granted from SAWS.
  • All residential fountains and indoor commercial fountains can operation at any state of the drought. Outdoor commercial fountains must have a SAWS variance in order to operate during drought stage I through IV.
  • Washing impervious cover, such as parking lots, driveways, streets, buildings or sidewalks is prohibited during drought restrictions. Exceptions, based on health and safety reasoning, may be requested from SAWS. All requests should be processed through UTSA’s Environmental Health, Safety & Risk Management. Unless a variance is requested and granted from SAWS, power washing without a variance will be subject to a citation.
  • Facilities continually monitors the automatic irrigation systems for proper operation and installs landscaping that supports water conservation and protects natural resources.

Landscape watering with an irrigation system, sprinkler or soaker hose is allowed only once a week from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. on your designated watering day, as determined by your address.

Watering with a hand-held hose is allowed any time on any day.

Watering with drip irrigation or 5-gallon bucket is permitted any day but only between from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.

Everyone is encouraged to follow water conservation practices and monitor the drought information at http://www.saws.org as further restrictions could occur should the aquifer level continue to fall.  For additional campus information or suggestions please contact Facilities Work Control at 458-4262.
