UTSA Water Restriction & Conservation Plan - Stage II

Stage II Water Restrictions went into effect in San Antonio, on April 30, 2012. All restrictions from Stage I remain in effect, unless added to or replaced by Stage II rules. According to the San Antonio Water System (SAWS), the agency that restricts and regulates water usage for the City of San Antonio, stage II goes into effect when the Edwards Aquifer goes below the 650 foot level. Changes in Stage II restrictions include new allotted watering times between 7:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m. In support of water conservation and environmental stewardship, UTSA will implement the following measures:

  • All UTSA campuses including the Main Campus, Downtown Campus and HemisFair Park, will be restricted to one day per week watering on Mondays between 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
  • Athletic and sports fields are considered special use areas and additional watering day variances are requested and granted from SAWS.
  • All residential fountains and indoor commercial fountains can operation at any state of the drought. Outdoor commercial fountains must have a SAWS variance in order to operate during drought stage I through IV.
  • Washing impervious cover, such as parking lots, driveways, streets, buildings or sidewalks is prohibited during drought restrictions. Exceptions, based on health and safety reasoning, may be requested from SAWS. All requests should be processed through UTSA’s Environmental Health, Safety & Risk Management. Unless a variance is requested and granted from SAWS, power washing without a variance will be subject to a citation.
  • Facilities continually monitors the automatic irrigation systems for proper operation and installs landscaping that supports water conservation and protects natural resources.

Landscape watering with an irrigation system, sprinkler or soaker hose is allowed only once a week from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. on your designated watering day, as determined by your address.

Watering with a hand-held hose is allowed any time on any day.

Watering with drip irrigation or 5-gallon bucket is permitted any day but only between from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.

Everyone is encouraged to follow water conservation practices and monitor the drought information at http://www.saws.org as further restrictions could occur should the aquifer level continue to fall.  For additional campus information or suggestions please contact Facilities Work Control at 458-4262.
