MBT: Intermittent Comfort Heating Issues

(November 24, 2020) – Facilities is troubleshooting boiler problems that are causing intermittent comfort heating issues in the Margaret Batts Tobin Laboratory (MBT). AET and SEB: Comfort Heating Outage – November 29 – December 5, 2020

(November 25, 2020) – UPDATE: Due to the cold temperature forecast for next week, this outage is cancelled and will be rescheduled for a later date.

(November 23, 2020) – A comfort heating outage at the Applied Engineering and Technology Building (AET) and Science and Engineering Building (SEB) is scheduled from Sunday, November 29, 2020, at 7:00 a.m., until Saturday, December 5, 2020 at 10:00 p.m.  The outage is needed to repair a heating hot water loop that supports these two buildings.  Building occupants may experience cooler building temperatures during the outage.  In addition, five ADA parking spaces on the west side of the AET will be blocked off during the repair.  For additional information, please refer to the attached map or contact the Facilities Service Center at (210) 458-4262.  AET Map-Closed ADA Parking


Facilities Seeks Feedback from UTSA Community

(November 23, 2020) – The Office of Facilities invites the UTSA community to take a customer satisfaction survey. The survey will run until December 11, 2020 and will measure how well Facilities performs in areas such as building maintenance, custodial services, events support, and grounds maintenance.

Facilities will use the survey responses to evaluate our processes and services. Your candid feedback is vital for us to improve our support to the university. This survey should only take 4-5 minutes to complete and all responses are anonymous.

ART: Air Handler Unit Preventive Maintenance – November 23-24, 2020

(November 17, 2020) – The air handler units in the Arts Building (ART) will be shut down for preventive maintenance between 6:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., each day, from Monday, November 23, 2020 through Tuesday, November 24, 2020. The outages should not affect comfort cooling to the building as mild temperatures are forecasted during the maintenance period. RWC: Natural Gas Outage – November 20, 2020 (5:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.)

(November 17, 2020) – A natural gas outage at the Recreation Wellness Center (RWC), to include Student Health Services and Counseling Services, is scheduled for Friday, November 20, 2020 from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.  This outage is needed to relocate a gas line associated with the construction of the Roadrunner Athletics Center of Excellence.  During the outage, the building will be without hot water and building heating.  Occupants may experience lower than normal building temperatures during the outage.  For additional information, please contact the Facilities Service Center at (210) 458-4262.


Main Campus: Cook Road, University Center Road, and TEP Lot Closure – November 20-21, 2020

(November 17, 2020) – A new chiller is being delivered to the Thermal Energy Plant (TEP) on Saturday, November 21, 2020, which requires the partial closure of Cook Road, University Center Road, and TEP Lot to facilitate crane operations. The following closures will occur beginning Friday, November 20 and last through Saturday, November 21.

• TEP Lot – Closed from Friday, November 20, at 7:00 p.m. until Saturday, November 21, at 4:00 p.m. Vehicles, with the exception of UTS service vehicles, need to be removed from the lot prior to the closure. Access to UTS service vehicles will be blocked during the scheduled delivery time on Saturday November 21, from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

• Cook Road (south of Bosque Street) and University Center Road – Closed Saturday, November 21, from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

MBT: Power Outage, November 17, 2020

(November 17, 2020) – UPDATE: This outage was cancelled by Lab Safety and will be rescheduled for a later date.

(November 12, 2020) – A power outage at the Margaret Batts Tobin Laboratories (MBT) is scheduled for Tuesday, November 17, 2020, from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m.  The outage is necessary for annual testing of the emergency generator and BSL-3 lab recertification.  For additional information, please contact the Facilities Service Center at (210) 458-4262.


HSU: Hot Water Outage, November 17, 2020

(November 9, 2020) – Hot water to the H-E-B Student Union (HSU) will be shut down on Tuesday, November 17, 2020 from 7:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon. During the outage, there will be no hot water in the entire building, to include restrooms and kitchen areas. The outage is necessary to perform water line tie-in work for the Student Organization Complex renovation project. BSB: Air Handler Unit Preventive Maintenance – November 10-12, 2020

(November 5, 2020) – The air handler units in the Biosciences Building (BSB) will be shut down for preventive maintenance between 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m., each day, from Tuesday, November 10, 2020 through Thursday, November 12, 2020. The outages should not affect building temperatures as only one unit at a time will be shut down to reduce the impact to building occupants. This work will not affect the vivarium or BSL-3 lab as they are serviced through separate units. For additional information, please contact the Facilities Service Center at (210) 458-4262.


Main Campus: Simplex Master Clock – Campus Clock Outage

(November 16, 2020) – UPDATE: The master clock has been repaired and campus clocks should reflect the correct time. Our Operations team is performing a clock audit to identify and correct clocks not working properly after the master clock repair. Clocks identified during the audit will be repaired as soon as possible. If you notice a clock that is not showing the correct time, we ask that you report it to the Facilities Service Center at (210) 458-4262.

(November 2, 2020) – With the change from Daylight Savings Time this past weekend, many of the clocks on campus did not automatically move back one hour due to an electrical malfunction. This clock outage is affecting all digital and analog clocks at the JPL, MB, MH, FLN, SU, HSU, BOS, RWC, CONVO, IAB, BSB, BSE, AET, ART, SRL, UOB and BSA.  Facilities is currently working to resolve the issue.  We will send a follow-up notification when the repair is complete.  We apologize for the inconvenience.  For additional information, please contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.


Main Campus: Service Drive Sidewalk Closure, November 4, 2020 – January 23, 2021

(October 30, 2020) – A portion of the service drive sidewalk, between the Applied Engineering and Technology Building (AET) and the Biotechnology Sciences and Engineering Building (BSE), will be closed from November 4, 2020 until January 23, 2021.  Scaffolding will be erected in this area for partial demolition and investigation of plaster soffit on the east side of the AET, immediately below the second level plaza entrance.  Vehicle traffic inside the service drive will not be affected.  For additional information, please refer to the attached map or contact the Facilities Service Center at (210) 458-4262.  Sidewalk Closure Map – AET Service Drive 


BOS: Hot Water Outage

(October 28, 2020) – Hot water in the Bosque Street Building (BOS) is currently out due to a steam leak in a pump room. We are working to repair this as soon as possible, but the building will be without domestic hot water and heating hot water until the repair can be made. Main Campus: Chilled Water Outage, Wednesday October 28, 2020, 5:00-7:00 a.m.

(October 26, 2020) – The main campus chilled water supply, which helps provide cooling to campus buildings, will be shut down on Wednesday, October 28, 2020 from 5:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. The shutdown is part of the Chiller #3 replacement project and will affect cooling in the following buildings: ARH, AET, ART, BB, BSB, BSE, BOS, CC, EB, FLN, GSR, HSU, IAB, JPL, MB, MH, MS, NPB, RWC, SEB, and SU. To have the least impact on the campus, the shutdown is early in the morning with outdoor temperatures forecasted in the 50s. AET: Cold Temperatures in Building

(October 20, 2020) – UPDATE: Normal temperatures have been restored to the AET. If you experience temperatures that are colder than usual, please contact the Facilities Service Center at (210) 458-4262, so that they can have our maintenance team investigate. Thank you

(October 20, 2020) – Occupants of the Applied Engineering and Technology Building (AET) may be experiencing colder temperatures than normal, because of leaking water pipe that provides comfort cooling and heating to the building. We have made the repair and turned the hot water back on. Building temperatures should gradually improve over the next hour. We will continue to monitor the situation and will send a follow-up notification when we are confident that the entire building is back to normal temperatures. Alvarez Hall and Guadalupe Hall: Power Outage, October 14, 2020

(October 14, 2020) – Electrical power to Alvarez Hall and the Guadalupe Hall construction site will be turned off on October 14, 2020, from 4:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. for an urgent repair to a medium voltage breaker. FLN: Exhaust Fans Shut Down for Maintenance – October 13-16, 2020

(October 9, 2020) – Exhaust fans 5, 6, 9N, 9S, 14, 15, 16, 21, 23E, 30, 34N, 34S, 39, 40, 10, 100, 101, 102, 103, and 104, that service the Flawn Building (FLN), will be shut down for maintenance from Tuesday, October 13, 2020 through Friday, October 16, 2020. The shutdowns will occur between 7:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. each day. Please do not use or store chemicals inside fume hoods during the outages. MB: Restrooms 0.322 and 0.324 Closed for Emergency Repairs Until October 13, 2020

(October 9, 2020) – Two restrooms in the Main Building (MB), Men’s 0.322 and Women’s 0.324, will be closed until Tuesday, October 13, 2020 for an emergency plumbing repair and carpentry work. For additional information, please contact the Facilities Service Center at (210) 458-4262.


BSE: Shutdown of Exhaust Fans 5, 6, and 7 – Friday, October 9, 2020

(October 8, 2020) – Exhaust fans 5, 6, and 7, in the Biotechnology Sciences and Engineering Building (BSE), will be shut down on Friday, October 9, 2020, from 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., to facilitate an urgent repair to a sprinkler line. These exhaust fans service laboratories on the southeast side of the building, to include 0.210B, 0.210D1, 0.210D2, 0.210D3, 3.208, 3.218, 4.120, 4.208, and 4.222. Fume hoods are not available for use during this shutdown and building occupants will likely experience warmer room temperatures. SAL/SRL: Boiler Outage – Affects Autoclaves and Equipment Needing Steam

(October 12, 2020) – UPDATE:  Steam to the SAL and SRL has been restored. Building occupants can use autoclaves and other equipment that require the use of steam.

(October 6, 2020) – The boilers that support the Small Animal Laboratory (SAL) and Science Research Laboratories (SRL) are down for emergency repair.  Building occupants will not be able to use autoclaves or equipment requiring the use of steam during this outage.  In addition, the boilers are used to control building humidity and occupants may experience abnormal humidity levels.  We will send a separate notification when the repairs are complete.  For additional information, please contact the Facilities Service Center at (210) 458-4262.


AET: Repair of Hot Water Pipe – October 5-7, 2020

(October 1, 2020) – An urgent repair to a hot water pipe, located in the Applied Engineering and Technology Building (AET), will begin at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, October 5, 2020 and end at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 7, 2020. This hot water pipe provides comfort cooling and heating to the building and occupants may experience abnormal temperatures during the repair. The following rooms will be affected: 1.102, 1.102-1, 1.104-1, 1.202, 1.204, 1.206, 1.212, 1.214, 1.216, 1.218, 1.220, 1.222, 1.224, 1.230, 1.236, 1.238, 1.240, 1.242, 1,246, 1.248, 1.310, 1.312, 1.314, 1.316, 1.318, 1.326, 1.328, 1.329, 1.364, and 1.368.
