TxDOT Construction on Loop 1604 Expansion Project

(May 7, 2021) – The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is moving forward with the Loop 1604 Expansion Project. Over the next few weeks, drivers will see message boards and signs along the corridor in preparation for construction.

Special Activities & Moves Temporarily Unavailable

(May 7, 2021) – Spring Commencement set up begins Wednesday, May 12 and ends on Saturday, May 16. During this time, Special Activities & Moves services will be unavailable for routine move requests.

Planned AC Maintenance for MH, FLN, JPL, and ART Buildings

(May 7, 2021) – Planned air conditioning maintenance to increase air circulation in buildings will begin Tuesday, May 11. The work will be performed daily from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Affected buildings include the McKinney Humanities Building (MH), Arts Building (ART), Flawn Sciences Building (FLN), and the John Peace Library (JPL).

During the maintenance, air handler units will be turned-off intermittently and building occupants may experience temperatures warmer than normal.

Planned Cold Water Outage for GSR

(May 6, 2021) – A cold water system maintenance is scheduled for the Graduate School & Research Building (GSR) on Tuesday, May 11 from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

During the maintenance, a cold water outage will be needed to repair the system.

Classroom Renovations at UTSA

(May 6, 2021) – Facilities has begun renovations of classrooms throughout UTSA. These renovations are expected to be completed by August 20, 2021.

Throughout the renovations, building occupants will experience construction-related noises and minimal dust. Attached is a complete list of classroom renovations.

Planned Natural Gas Outage at Chisholm Hall and the Activity Center

(May 3, 2021) – A broken service valve that provides natural gas to the Chisholm Hall and the Activity Center will be repaired on Wednesday, May 5 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

During repairs, a short natural gas outage will affect domestic hot water and building heating hot water.

Rescheduled AC Outage at Chisholm Hall and the Activity Center

(May 6, 2021) – The scheduled maintenance at Chisholm Hall and the Activity Center has been rescheduled to Friday May 7 at 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(May 3, 2021) – Scheduled maintenance at Chisholm Hall and the Activity Center will impact air conditioning to the two buildings.

Planned Crane Operations on University Center Drive

(April 30, 2021) – Crane operations to lift equipment to the North Thermal Energy Plant (NTEP) is scheduled from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Monday, May 3.

The crane will be set up on University Center Drive to unload the equipment from the truck-trailer combo delivering the unit to the south side of the NTEP. During the crane operations, delivery trucks accessing the student union loading docks may experience delays.

Barricades and flag personnel will be provided to safely guide pedestrian traffic around the crane operations.

Power Restored to Downtown Campus

There was a brief power outage Friday morning at the UTSA Downtown Campus. The unintentional outage occurred because of a City transformer fire near Commerce Street. During the outage, electrical power to the Monterey Building (MNT) was not affected.

Facilities Operations and Maintenance staff are restoring air condition units and resetting power systems in some buildings, which includes automated maintenance systems.

Planned Panel Outage for Multiple Buildings

(April 22, 2021) – Upgrades to the fire panels are scheduled for the Applied Engineering and Technology Building (AET), Arts Building (ART), McKinney Humanities Building (MH), and the Bauerle Road Garage (BRG). The planned maintenance will begin on Tuesday, April 27 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

During the upgrade, Facilities and the UTSA Police Department will be unable to monitor the panels from a central location. However, the fire alarms will be operational and sound-off when needed.

If the fire alarm sounds while you are in any of these buildings, please exit the building and contact UTSA PD Dispatch at 210-458-4911.

Planned Domestic Water Outage for West Campus

(April 21, 2021) – A scheduled maintenance for the west campus domestic water system will begin on Tuesday, April 27 from 5:30 a.m. to 8:00 a.m.

During the maintenance, a domestic water outage will be needed to repair the system. The following buildings will be affected by the water outage.

Buildings impacted include:

Lecture Hall Concrete Work at BB Rescheduled

(April 27, 2021) – Concrete work to renovate lecture halls at the Business Building (BB) has been rescheduled to Thursday, April 29 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

During this time, a concrete truck will be parked near the building entrance at corridor 1.01, located on the east side of the building. Workers will use this entrance to transport concrete barrels to the 2nd floor of the Business Building.

Planned Chiller Maintenance

(April 12, 2021) – Planned utility work for the North Thermal Energy Plant (NTEP) is scheduled for Thursday, April 15 from 7:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. A crane and support vehicles will be operating on the south side of the NTEP.

Construction personnel and barricades will be used to direct pedestrian traffic in the area.

Planned Natural Gas Testing

(March 31, 2021) – As mandated by the State Fire Marshal Office (SFMO), planned natural gas testing will begin Monday, April 12 and end by Friday, July 9.

During the planned testing, natural gas to buildings will be shut down in small segments. Therefore, comfort heating, domestic hot water, autoclaves, kitchen equipment using natural gas, and emergency power generators will not be available for use.

Facilities will coordinate the exact date and time of each shut down with building occupants prior to testing. Attached is a list of affected building. Natural Gas Testing Building List

Unplanned Boiler Outage at SRL

Update (April 2, 2021) – Boiler 1 is has been repaired. All steam and hot water services are available at the SRL

(March 31, 2021) – Comfort heating and steam is down due to a boiler outage at the Science Research Laboratories (SRL). During the outage, autoclaves and any equipment that requires steam will not be available for use. Hot water will not be impacted.

We are working to restore the boiler outage as soon as possible. We will send an update when the issue is resolved.

Scheduled Air Handler Unit System Maintenance at the BSE

(March 31, 2021) – A routine preventive maintenance has been scheduled for the air handler unit system at the Biotechnology Sciences and Engineering Building (BSE). Work will begin on Monday, April 12 at 6 a.m. and end on Friday, April 16.

Throughout the maintenance, building occupants should not expect an impact to building air conditioning. This work will not affect the vivarium, as it is supported by a separate unit.

Business Building Lecture Halls & Classrooms Renovations

(March 31, 2021) – Facilities has begun renovations of 4 lecture halls and classrooms (2.01.06, 2.01.10, 2.01.14, 2.01.18) located in the 2nd floor of the Business Building. Work to renovate lecture halls is expected to be completed by August 20, 2021.

Throughout the renovations, building occupants will experience construction-related noises and minimal dust.

Classroom Renovations at Multidisciplinary Studies Building

(March 31, 2021) – Facilities has begun renovations of 2 classrooms (2.02.20 and 2.02.54) located in the 2nd floor of the Multidisciplinary Studies Building. These renovations are part of the “Pilot Classroom Project” and is expected to be completed by August 20, 2021.

Throughout the renovations, building occupants will experience construction-related noises and minimal dust.

Scheduled Exhaust Fan System Maintenance at the FLN Building

(March 31, 2021) – A routine preventive maintenance has been scheduled for the exhaust fan system at the Flawn Sciences Building (FLN). Work will begin on Monday, April 5 at 6 a.m. and end on Friday, April 9.

Throughout the maintenance, fume hoods will not be available for use, and chemicals should not be stored inside them. All other systems such as building power, air conditioning, and exhaust will not be affected.

Planned Generator Testing at AET

(March 25, 2021) – Facilities has scheduled generator testing at the Applied Engineering and Technology building (AET). The planned generator testing will begin on Friday, March 26 at 5 a.m. and end by 2 p.m.

During this time, all other systems such as building power, air conditioning, and exhaust will not be affected.
