Unplanned Restroom Closure – FLN

(April 18, 2024) – Due to plumbing issues, an unplanned closure of the restrooms on the fourth floor of the Flawn Sciences Building (FLN) has become necessary. During this closure, the men’s and women’s restrooms on the fourth floor will not be available for use. Restrooms located on other floors of the building will remain unaffected and open.

Facilities is currently working to correct the issue and hopes to have the building’s plumbing repaired quickly.

Unplanned Cooling Outage – SSC

(April 17, 2024) – Due to mechanical issues, an unplanned reduction in cooling has occurred in the Student Success Center (SSC), specifically room SSC 1.22 and the surrounding rooms. During the outage, occupants may experience higher than normal temperatures until the cooling is fully restored.

Facilities is currently working to correct the issue and hopes to have the building’s cooling system repaired as quickly as possible.

Planned Window Cleaning – Downtown Campus – Multiple Buildings

(March 27, 2024) – Window cleaning has been scheduled at the Frio Street Building (FS), Buena Vista Building (BVB), Durango Building (DBB), Durango Addition (DBA) and the Monterey Building (MNT) from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily between Thursday, Mar. 28 and Sunday, Apr. 21.

During the cleaning, sidewalks and entryways may be temporarily unavailable due the cleaning equipment being utilized. Contractors will be on site to ensure that there are alternate routes available for pedestrians to enter and exit buildings undergoing cleaning.

Planned Water Outage – LST and MLL

(March 25, 2024) – A planned water outage at the Large Scale Testing Laboratory (LST), Mesquite Living Lab (MLL) and adjacent General Contractor trailers is scheduled for 8 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, Mar. 27. This outage is necessary for Facilities to conduct repairs to the buildings’ plumbing system.

During the outage water will be unavailable throughout both facilities.

Unplanned Partial Cooling Outage – JPL

(March 22, 2024) – Due to mechanical issues, an unplanned reduction in cooling has occurred at the John Peace Library (JPL). Occupants located in the center portions of all floors of the building may experience slightly higher than normal building temperatures until the cooling is fully restored.

Facilities is currently working to correct the issue and hopes to have the building’s cooling system repaired as quickly as possible.

Unplanned Partial Heating Outage – MB

(March 21, 2024) – Due to mechanical issues, an unplanned reduction in heating has occurred at the Main Building (MB). Occupants may experience slightly reduced building temperatures in some parts of the building until the heat is fully restored.

Facilities is currently working to correct the issue and hopes to have the building’s heating system repaired as quickly as possible.

Planned Cooling Outage – BSE

(March 14, 2024) – A planned cooling outage at the Biotechnology Sciences and Engineering Building (BSE) is scheduled for 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, Mar. 30. This outage is necessary for Facilities to perform maintenance on the building’s HVAC system.

During the brief outage building occupants may experience slightly warmer temperatures throughout the building. Occupants may also smell a light peppermint odor that’s being used as part of the maintenance work.

Planned Heating/Cooling Outage – ART

(March 5, 2024) – A planned heating and cooling outage at the Arts Building (ART) addition is scheduled for 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Mar. 14. This outage is necessary for Facilities to perform necessary maintenance on the building’s heating/cooling equipment.

During the outage, building occupants in the addition (located on the south side of the building) may notice higher temperatures as they will be without air conditioning and normal ventilation. This will not affect the recital hall.

(March 5, 2024) – A planned heating and cooling outage at the Main Building (MB) is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Mar. 13. This outage is necessary for Facilities to perform necessary maintenance on the building’s heating/cooling equipment.

During the outage, building occupants may notice higher temperatures as they will be without air conditioning and normal ventilation.

(March 5, 2024) – A planned heating and cooling outage at the John Peace Library (JPL) is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Mar. 12. This outage is necessary for Facilities to perform necessary maintenance on the building’s heating/cooling equipment.

During the outage, building occupants on the northwest side of the building (all floors) may notice higher temperatures as they will be without air conditioning and normal ventilation.

Planned Closure of Parking Spaces and Sidewalk – XAG

(February 29, 2024) – Parking spaces outside of the southwest section of the Ximenes Avenue Garage (XAG) are scheduled to be closed from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Mar. 2. This closure is necessary for Facilities to install large equipment on the building’s roof.

During the closure, approximately 15 parking spaces within the work area will be blocked off and will be unable for use. Additionally, traffic flow for vehicles and pedestrians will be impacted.

(February 26, 2024) – A planned cooling outage at the Biotechnology Sciences and Engineering Building (BSE) is scheduled for 6 a.m. to 7 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 28. This outage is necessary for Facilities to upgrade the building’s HVAC system.

During the brief outage building occupants may experience slightly warmer temperatures throughout the building.

(February 23, 2024) – The planned closure of parking spaces outside of the southwest section of the Ximenes Avenue Garage (XAG) that was scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 25 has been cancelled. The closure will be rescheduled for a future date and a notification will be sent out at that time.

(February 8, 2024) – A planned heating and cooling outage at the Biotechnology Sciences and Engineering Building (BSE) is scheduled for 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 24. This outage is necessary for Facilities to replace fire prevention equipment in the building.

During the closure building occupants on the 2nd floor will be without air conditioning, heat and ventilation.

UPDATE: Unplanned Reverse Osmosis/Deionized Water Outage – BSE

(February 2, 2024) – Due to mechanical issues, an unplanned outage of the reverse osmosis (RO) and deionized (DI) water systems occurred at the Biotechnology Sciences and Engineering Building (BSE) yesterday. Facilities has corrected the issue and the building’s RO and DI water systems have been fully restored.

(February 1, 2024) – Due to mechanical issues, an unplanned outage of the reverse osmosis (RO) and deionized (DI) water systems has occurred at the Biotechnology Sciences and Engineering Building (BSE). During the outage, RO and DI water will not be available for use in all laboratories.

Facilities is currently working to correct the issue and hopes to have the building’s RO and DI water systems restored quickly.

UPDATE: Unplanned Electrical Outage – SWC

(January 31, 2024) – Due to unforeseen issues, an unplanned electrical outage occurred this morning at the Southwest Campus (SWC). Power crews from CPS Energy quickly responded and power has now been restored.

(January 30, 2024) – The planned sidewalk closure outside the Biotechnology Sciences and Engineering Building (BSE) has been extended through Wednesday, Jan. 31. This closure is necessary for Facilities to remove large HVAC equipment from the area.

During the closure a portion of the Ford Lot to the south of the building will also be closed to vehicle traffic.

Planned Electrical Outage – BSE

(January 26, 2024) – A planned, partial electrical outage at the Biotechnology Sciences and Engineering Building (BSE) is scheduled from 5:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 26.  Hallways located on the east side of the building (spaces in 1.100, 2.100, 3.100 and 4.100) will be affected.  This outage is necessary for Facilities to conduct repairs to the building’s electrical system.

During the outage, normal lighting will turn off, but will be powered by backup power (e-power) and building occupants on the fourth floor may notice slightly higher temperatures. The outage will also affect BSE’s two passenger elevators, which will be out of service, but the freight elevator will remain in operation.

Planned Steam Outage – Main Campus – Multiple Buildings

(January 24, 2024) – A planned steam outage for multiple buildings across the Main Campus is scheduled for 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 25. This outage is necessary for Facilities to conduct repairs on the buildings’ steam system.  The following buildings are affected by the outage:

Arts Building (ART)
Biosciences Building (BSB)
Biotechnology Sciences & Engineering Building (BSE)
Bosque Street Building (BOS)
Business Building (BB)
Convocation Center (CC)
Flawn Science Building (FLN)
H-E-B Student Union (HSU)

During the outage, building residents may notice a drop in temperature. The outage will also affect the hot water in all buildings, including autoclaves and cage washers in laboratories.

Unplanned Restroom Closure – MH

(January 23, 2024) – Due to plumbing issues, an unplanned restroom closure was necessary at the McKinney Humanities Building (MH) earlier today. The closure was required for Facilities to conduct emergency repairs to the building’s plumbing system.

Facilities has since corrected the issue and the building’s restrooms are being reopened. We apologize for any inconvenience this closure may have caused.
