FLN Exhaust Fans Shut Down Oct 21st & 22nd for Maintenance

FLN Exhaust fans #5, 6, 9N, 9S, 14, 15, 16, 21, 23E, 30 will be shut down from 6:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. on October 21, 2017 and fans #34N, 34S, 39, 40, 10, 100, 101, 102, 103 and 104 will be shut down from 6:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. on October 22, 2017 for maintenance.  Fume hoods will be impacted by the shutdowns and will not be available for use during the outages.  No other utilities will be affected by this work.  Exhaust fans will be turned back on immediately following completion of work on Oct 21st and 22nd.  For additional information contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.

 


Pedestrian and Shuttle Service Routes from VIA bus stops to DTC

 

VIA bus detours, scheduled to begin on October 15, 2017, have temporarily relocated several bus stops from the Downtown Campus to other locations nearby.  To assist our campus community in safely navigating these areas, the attached map provides suggested pedestrian routes to and from the temporary bus stops located at Milam Park and at the S. Santa Rosa and W. Nueva intersection.

In addition, Campus Services will offer temporary shuttle service between the Downtown Campus and nearby alternate bus stops.  This route will take approximately 15-20 minutes.  Please refer to the attached shuttle service map.

UTSA Police will provide additional patrols around these temporary bus stops and the campus during this time.

UCII – Chili’s Patio Closed for Repairs Oct 20th

The patio adjacent to the UCII Chili’s will be closed from 8:00 a.m. until approximately 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 20, 2017 for repairs.  Work will include the removal and reinstallation of pavers and compaction of the base materials.  The patio will reopen immediately following completion of the work on Oct 20th.  For additional information contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.

 


Downtown Campus – Temporary VIA Bus Detours

Road improvements along Frio Street will affect VIA service in and around Centro Plaza beginning October 15, 2017.  VIA bus routes, 86926 and 86927, that stop at the UTSA Downtown Campus are expected to be rerouted for approximately two months.  To assist with the temporary changes, VIA will install A-frame message boards at the bus stops directly outside of the UTSA Downtown Campus.  To learn more about how these detours affect your bus commute to the Downtown Campus, please reference the attached VIA quick reference sheets or visit VIA online at http://www.viainfo.net/friostreetclosures/.

FY18 Tri-Campus Fire Protection System Inspections

The tri-campus fire suppression, fire alarm, and fire sprinkler systems will be inspected and serviced, as required by the State of Texas, from September 2017 through August 2018. The systems will be inspected and serviced between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. and audio and visual appliances including horns, speakers and lights tested between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. An intercom announcement will be made prior to the start of testing. FY18 Tri-Campus Fire Protection System Inspections


S. Frio St. and W. Cesar E. Chavez Blvd. intersection closed beginning October 15, 2017

The City of San Antonio will close the intersection at S. Frio St. and W. César E. Chávez Blvd. beginning at 10:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 15, 2017.   The closure is part of the city’s ongoing project to improve vehicle and pedestrian routes in the area and scheduled to last three weeks.   The city will post message boards seven days prior to construction to inform the public.   The attached map shows detour routes and the locations of posted signage.  If you have questions about the project, please contact Richard Casiano, Capital Projects Officer, at 210-207-8218 or richard.casiano@sanantonio.gov.

West Campus Road Shut Down to One Lane Beginning Oct 16th

West Campus Road, located in front of the Central Receiving Warehouse (CRW), will be shut down to one lane from October 16, 2017 until October 31, 2017 for placement of a test pervious concrete cover.  The closure is not expected to impact daily operations as one lane of the road will remain open and available for use.  For additional information please reference the attached area photo or contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.  West Campus Rd

 


NTEP Repairs – Steam Outage Scheduled for Sept 30th

The NTEP will shut down steam supply to the ART, BB, BOS, BSB, BSE, CC, EB, FLN, JPL, Main, MH, MS, PE, RWC and UC on Saturday, September 30, 2017 between 12:01 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. for repairs to an isolation valve.  The outage will affect environmental heating (BSE not affected), domestic hot water for use in dishwashers, washing machines and showers, BSE, FLN and BSB autoclaves and the BSE cage washer. Steam service will be restored immediately following completion of repairs on Sept 30th.  For additional information contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262. 

 

 


Hemisfair/ITC: Water Outage Scheduled for Sept 27th

Water service to the Hemisfair (ITC) building will be shut down on September 27, 2017 beginning at 6:00 p.m. for repairs.   During the outage there will be no water available for use throughout the building including fountains, restrooms and kitchen equipment.  Service is expected to be restored following completion of the work on Sept 27th.  For additional information contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262. 

 


BSE: Area Adjacent to Loading Dock Closed off

An area adjacent to the BSE loading dock will be closed off from September 18, 2017 until October 9, 2017 for use as a research project concrete staging area.   The closure is not expected to impact daily operations and will not affect the use of the loading dock.  For additional information please reference the attached drawing or contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.

BSB Non Potable Cold Water to Room 3.03.37 Shut Down on Sept 22nd and 23rd

Non potable cold water service to BSB room 3.03.37 will be shut down from 7:00 a.m. on Friday, September 22, 2017 until 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 23, 2017 for work related to the new BSL III autoclave.  During the outage there will be no non-potable cold water available for use in autoclaves and gage washers located in room 3.03.37.   Water will be restored immediately following completion of work on Sept 23rd.  For additional information contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262. 

 


NTEP: Startup of New Steam Boiler System Scheduled for Sept 18th – Sept 22nd

The newly installed North Thermal Energy Plant (NTEP) steam boiler system that services the ART, BB, BOS, BSB, BSE, CC, EB, FLN, JPL, Main, MH, MS, PE, RWC and UC is scheduled to be started up again on Monday, September 18, 2017.  This phase of the startup is expected to be completed by Friday, September 22, 2017.  During the process, fluctuations in steam supply pressure and potential intermittent outages of approximately five minutes or less (per hour) may impact cage washer and autoclave operations.  West campus buildings, domestic water heating for showers, dishwashers and washing machines and heating hot water for building environmental heating will not be affected.  For additional information contact the Facilities Services Center at 458-4262.

 


ART: Elevators Shut Down on Sept 15th for State of Texas Inspections

Elevators #1 and 3 that service the ART will be shut down on September 15, 2017 for required State of Texas safety inspections.  Elevator #3 will be shut down from 7:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. and elevator #1 will be shut down from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.   The shutdowns will only impact access to the fourth floor between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.  During this time please access the fourth floor via the stairs.  For additional information contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.

 


BSB: Water Service Shut Down on Sept 9th for Repairs

Water service to the BSB will be shut down on Saturday, September 9, 2017 from 6:00 a.m. until approximately 11:00 a.m. for repairs to the water line that feeds the softeners.  The Reverse Osmosis (RO) water system will not be affected by this outage.  Water to the building will be turned back on immediately following completion of work on Sept 9th at 11:00 a.m.  For additional information contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.

AET Exhaust Fans: Maintenance Scheduled for Sept 7th and 8th

Exhaust fans that service the AET will be shut down on Thursday, September 7, 2017 and Friday, September 8, 2017 between 5:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. for maintenance.  The outages are not expected to impact daily operations as only one unit a time will be shutdown.  No other utilities including electrical, air conditioning and exhaust to fume hoods will be impacted.  For additional information contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.


Facilities Preparations for Hurricane Harvey

In anticipation of inclement weather associated with Hurricane Harvey, Facilities is preparing for heavy rains and high winds.  Crews will be sandbagging flood-prone areas, securing outdoor furniture, cleaning storm drains, and taking other actions to protect the campus and UTSA community.  Departments that have outdoor signs around campus, such as A-frame and yard signs, and any other loose items should bring them indoors immediately to prevent damage.

With the potential of water leaks in certain buildings, Facilities will provide plastic coverings to protect university equipment and property.  If you need plastic coverings, please go to the Sombrilla on Friday, August 25, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  A Facilities representative will be available to issue the plastic sheets.  Individuals at the Downtown Campus should visit the Downtown Campus Facilities Maintenance Office in the basement of the Buena Vista Street Building.

Intersection at Ximenes Avenue and UTSA Boulevard Closed this Afternoon at 2:00 p.m.

The intersection, both inbound and outbound lanes, at Ximenes Avenue and UTSA Boulevard will be shut down for three hours beginning at 2:00 p.m. this afternoon, Monday, August 21, 2017, for urgent asphalt repairs.  The intersection will reopen this afternoon at 5:00 p.m.  Alternate access to and from the south side of campus includes Barshop Boulevard at UTSA and Bauerle Road at UTSA.    For additional information contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.

 


BSE: Exhaust Fans Shut Down for Maintenance Week of Aug 21st

The exhaust fans that provide conditioned exhaust to all the BSE fume hoods will be shut down, one at a time, in short intervals between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon during the week of Monday, August 21, 2017 and Friday, August 25, 2017.  The shutdowns are not expected to impact daily operations and all other services including fume hoods, electrical and air conditioning will remain operational and available for use during the outages. BSE: Air Handler Units Shut Down for Maintenance Week of Aug 21st

The air handler units that service all floors of the BSE will be shut down for maintenance from 4:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. between Monday, August 21, 2017 and Friday, August 25, 2017.  The outages are not expected to impact daily operations as only one unit at a time will be shut down.    The unit that supports the Vivarium is not part of this work and will not be affected by the shutdowns.   For additional information contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.
