Scheduled Lane Closures for UTSA Blvd. near Ximenes Ave.

(March 4, 2021) – The City of San Antonio is scheduled to begin construction of a median along UTSA Blvd., near Ximenes Ave., to improve traffic safety. Weather permitting, construction will start on Monday, March 15 at 7 a.m. and will end 30 days after the start date.

Lane closures will be necessary throughout the day and in some cases throughout the night. However, one lane in each direction will always be open to traffic.

Scheduled Intermittent Air Handler Unit Outages at BSE

(March 4, 2021) – Facilities will be conducting routine air conditioning maintenance at the Biotechnology Sciences and Engineering (BSE) building. During the maintenance, building occupants may experience short intermittent outages.

The scheduled maintenance will begin on March 8 at 6 a.m. and end on March 12 at 11 a.m. For additional information, contact the Facilities Service Center at (210) 458-4262


John Peace Library Restroom Closures – First Floor

(March 5, 2021) – The John Peace Library restrooms in the first floor will be renovated. During the renovations, restrooms 1.01.06, 1.01.09, and 1.01.12 will be closed and not available for use.

Restroom closures will begin March 4 and end on August 13. Attached is a map with labeled closures. JPL-1st-Floor-RR-Closure

Scheduled Comfort Heating Outage at AET and SEB Buildings

(March 3, 2021) – A scheduled comfort heating outage is planned for both the Applied Engineering and Technology (AET) Building and Science and Engineering Building (SEB). This outage is necessary to repair a leak at the main heating hot water loop.

Work will begin Sunday, March 7 at 7 a.m. and end on Saturday, March 13 at 10 p.m. During the outage, occupants might experience cooler temperatures. Additionally, five ADA parking spaces on the west side of the AET will be blocked off and unavailable for parking.

Scheduled Partial Closures for Bosque Street and Parking Lots

(March 3, 2021) – Air compressors at the Bosque Street Building, which support environmental controls and lab air throughout campus, need to be replaced. Repairs are scheduled for Saturday, March 6, 2021 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will require the partial closure of Bosque Street and two parking lots. The following lots and entrance will be affected.

• UTSA Police Department Vehicle Compound Adjacent to the Utilities/Operations Building – Closed from March 5 at 6 p.m. until March 6 at 5 p.m. All vehicles, with the exception of UTS service vehicles, need to be removed from the lot prior to the closure.

• Bosque Street Lot (first 12 slots on the west side) – Closed from March 5 at 6 p.m. until March 6 at 5 p.m. All vehicles need to be removed from the lot prior to the closure.

• Bosque Street at Brenan Avenue – Closed from March 5 at 6 p.m. until March 6 at p.m. The east entrance of Bosque Street at Cook Road will remain open.

Urgent Building Heating Outage at Recreation Wellness Center

(March 3, 2021) – Due to problems with control valves that support heat exchangers, we are unable to maintain comfort heating in the Recreation Wellness Center. As a result, building occupants may experience cooler temperatures throughout the building.

We are working to resolve this issue as soon as possible and will send an update notice when comfort heating is restored to normal.

Urgent Domestic Hot Water and Comfort Heating Outage at Arts Building

(March 5, 2021) – Domestic hot water and comfort heating has been restored to the Arts Building. For additional information, contact the Facilities Service Center at (210) 458-4262.

 

March 3, 2021) – A steam outage in the Arts Building (ART) has affected domestic hot water and comfort heating throughout the building. Due to the outage, there is no domestic hot water and occupants may experience cooler temperatures.

We are working to restore the domestic hot water and comfort heating outage as soon as possible. We will send an update when we resolve the issue.

Scheduled AC Outage at CDC Building

(March 1, 2021) – A scheduled air conditioning outage is planned for the Child Development Center. This outage is necessary to replace air conditioning units that have surpassed their life expectancy. During the outage, occupants might experience warmer temperatures.

Work will begin Monday, March 8 at 7 a.m. and end on Saturday, March 14 at 5 p.m. For additional information, contact the Facilities Service Center at (210) 458-4262.


Urgent Domestic Hot Water System Outage at Recreation Wellness Center

(February 26, 2021) – The domestic hot water system is down due to system malfunction. Due to the outage, there is no hot water for showers and handwashing in the entire building, to include Student Health Services.

Urgent Exhaust Fan Outage at BSE Building

(February 26, 2021) – Exhaust fan #27 at the Biotechnology Sciences and Engineering (BSE) is down due to equipment malfunction. Due to the outage the chemical storage room in the BSE 0.304B1 is not in operation and out of service.

Steam System Outage at BSE

(February 24, 2021) Update:  Facilities has restored the steam system that supports the northeast side of the Biotechnology Sciences and Engineering Building (BSE). Building temperatures and humidity levels in this portion of the building are returning to normal.  For additional information, contact the Facilities Service Center at (210) 458-4262.

(February 24, 2021) An unscheduled shutdown of condensate steam that supports the northeast side of the Biotechnology Sciences and Engineering Building (BSE) is required due to a leak in the BSE penthouse. This shutdown will affect heat and humidity levels in the northeast side of the building, to include the Laboratory Animal Resources Center. Building occupants may notice a fluctuation of heat and humidity levels during the outage. Scheduled Power Outage at the Large-Scale Testing Laboratory

(February 24, 2021) – Routine preventative maintenance is scheduled for the Large-Scale Testing Laboratory (LST) on Friday, Feb. 26, 2021 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. The scheduled maintenance will affect electricity to the entire building.

(February 17, 2021) – The Biotechnology Sciences and Engineering Building (BSE) will see reduced building temperatures as a result of a failing heat exchanger and air handler unit. (February 17, 2021) – Due to equipment failure and water pressure issues caused by inclement weather, air conditioning and heating is currently unavailable for the Arts Building (ART), Business Building (BB), Engineering Building, McKinney Humanities Building (MH), and the Multidisciplinary Studies Building (MS). We are working to restore the comfort heating as soon as possible and hope to have it back in service tomorrow. We will send an update when we have the issue resolved. Urgent Facilities Notification – SRL: Reduced Building Temperatures – Boiler Outage

(March 1, 2021) – UPDATE: The boiler has been repaired and SRL temperatures have returned to normal.

(February 17, 2021) – The Science Research Laboratories (SRL) will see reduced building temperatures as the boiler that provides comfort heating is not operational due to a water rupture of a piece of equipment that affects the control systems of the boiler. As a result, Facilities is unable to provide comfort heating and expects a decline in building temperature over time. We are working to repair the boiler as soon as possible. Urgent Facilities Notification – DTC: Reduced Comfort Heating to Buildings

(February 18, 2021) – UPDATE: Water pressure has been restored and boilers are operating. Building temperatures have returned to normal.

(February 17, 2021) – All Downtown Campus (DTC) buildings will see reduced temperatures as the boilers that provide comfort heating are not operational due to low water pressure in the San Antonio area. As a result of the low water pressure, Facilities is unable to operate the boilers that provide heat to the buildings. San Antonio Water System (SAWS) has not been able to provide us an estimated time of when the water pressure will return to normal. We will provide further updates as we receive more information from SAWS. Inclement Weather Preparations (February 12-17, 2021)

(February 11, 2021) — In anticipation of the inclement weather forecast for the San Antonio metro area from February 12-17, 2021, Facilities is preparing for rain, high winds, and freezing temperatures. If necessary, crews will block-off walkways that accumulate ice to prevent injury. If you encounter an area blocked with caution tape or a barricade, please stay clear of the area. To report a facility or grounds concern requiring immediate attention, please contact the Facilities Service Center at (210) 458-4262 during normal business hours (Monday – Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.). Portion of Tobin Avenue closed Feb 15 to April 16

(February 9, 2021) — A portion of Tobin Avenue, immediately West of Brenan Avenue, will be partially closed from Monday, February 15, 2021 at 6 am to Friday, April 16, 2021 at 5 pm. This closure is needed to accommodate curb, sidewalk and loading dock installation along Tobin Avenue for the Guadalupe Hall project.

The closure will impact vehicle and pedestrian traffic along Tobin Avenue, between Roadrunner Café and the Brenan Avenue/Tobin Avenue intersection. Closure includes the northeast entrance to the north side of the Roadrunner Café. However, pedestrian sidewalk north of Tobin Avenue will remain open for use.

Traffic signage and barricades will be provided by the contractor to communicate the closure and block traffic. Attached is a detailed map of closure location. URGENT NOTICE – Boiler Outage Affects AET, BSE, and SEB Buildings – UPDATE

(February 9, 2021) — We have repaired Boiler 1, and normal operating temperatures should be back to normal by 8:00 pm. Boiler 2 is expected to be repaired by Wednesday, February 17, 2021, and should not cause abnormal (cooler) temperatures during this outage. (February 8, 2021) — The two boilers at the South Thermal Energy Plant (STEP) that provide comfort heating to the Applied Engineering and Technology Building (AET), Biotechnology Sciences and Engineering Building (BSE), Science and Engineering Building (SEB), buildings are down for emergency repairs.  Building occupants may experience abnormal (cooler) temperatures during this outage.

Boiler 1 is expected to be repaired and operational by end of day tomorrow and will allow us to restore normal temperatures to the AET and SEB once the repair is complete. We are able to transfer the BSE to steam heating from the North Thermal Energy Plant (NTEP) by the end of today. BSE occupants should notice warmer temperatures later today.  We will send a separate notification when the repairs are complete. For additional information, please contact the Facilities Service Center at (210) 458-4262.


MB: Air Handler 1 Potential Intermittent Outages

(February 5, 2021) — Air Handler Unit (AHU) 1, which provides air conditioning and heating to a large portion of the Main Building (MB), is currently experiencing technical issues. Repairs are scheduled to start Friday, February 5, 2021 and should be completed by Wednesday, February 10, 2021.

Please be aware that repairs might cause temporary intermittent outages. In addition, building occupants may experience abnormal temperatures. Attached is a map with affected locations. Main Building AHU Map
