Urgent Notice – Chemical waste line damage affects use of laboratory sinks in FLN and MS

(December 2, 2019) – A contractor working on the new ADA ramp between the Flawn Building (FLN) and Multidisciplinary Studies Building (MS) accidently damaged the chemical waste line that services these two buildings. Until further notice, FLN and MS occupants should not pour liquids down laboratory sinks. We will send a follow-up notification as soon as the line is repaired. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your support in not using the laboratory sinks until the repairs are made to the line. Updated Notification: BSE Exhaust Fan Repairs Completed Dec 2

Update 12/2/19:  Repairs have been completed

Exhaust fan #8 that services the west side of the Biotechnology Sciences & Engineering Building (BSE) is down, affecting the use of fume hoods and exhaust airflow.  A follow up email will be sent once repairs have been completed.  For additional information, contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.

 


Facilities seeks feedback from UTSA community

The Office of Facilities invites the UTSA community to take a customer satisfaction survey. The survey will run until December 13, 2019 and will measure how well Facilities performs in areas such as building maintenance, custodial services, events support, and grounds maintenance.

Facilities will use the survey responses to evaluate our processes and services. Your candid feedback is vital for us to improve our support to the university. This survey should only take 4-5 minutes to complete and all responses are anonymous.

Urgent Notice: BB Steam Valve Tripped Fire Alarm System Nov 15

A steam valve release tripped the fire alarm system in the Business Building (BB) this morning, November 15, 2019.  Facilities is currently troubleshooting the cause of the steam release and will make the necessary repairs as quickly as possible.  A follow up email will be sent once repairs have been completed.  For additional information, contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.

 


Urgent Notification: BB Air Handler Unit down Nov 14

Air handler unit #58 that services all four floors of the southeast side of the Business Building (BB) is down today, November 14, 2019, and Facilities working to resolve the problem as quickly as possible.  Other air handler units remain operational however; comfort heating to this section of the building may be affected by the outage.  A follow up email will be sent once repairs have been completed. Cook Road and University Center Road Closed Dec 14 – Jan 5

Cook Road, from south of Bosque Street to Cocke Drive and University Center Road, near the Student Union Fiesta Dancers sculpture, will be closed from December 14, 2019, through January 5, 2020, for construction related to the new Student Success Center project and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) sidewalk upgrades. The upgrades extend from the University Center Road circle to Bosque Street and Cook Road. For alternate Service Drive (tunnel) access, please use the gated east and south campus entrances. Forty-Six (46) Modular Units Delivered to the Main Campus Dec 14 – Jan 10

Forty-six modular units will be delivered to the Main Campus beginning December 14, 2019, as part of the new Student Success Center project. The units will depart Houston each morning and should arrive on campus each afternoon between 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. The last delivery is expected on January 10, 2020. The units will enter campus at Brennan Avenue and will travel to their final destination, south of the North Paseo Building (NPB) and Graduate School and Research Building (GSR), via Tobin Avenue, Bauerle Road and Devine Avenue. BOS, GSR, LV, NPB and SU: Water Outage Dec 21 – 22 & Jan 11 – 12

Water service to the Bosque Street Building (BOS), Graduate School and Research Building (GSR), Laurel Village (LV), North Paseo Building (NPB) and Student Union (SU) will be shut down from 6:00 a.m. on December 21, 2019, until 6:00 a.m. on December 22, 2019, and from 6:00 a.m. on January 11, 2020, until 6:00 a.m. on January 12, 2020, for construction work related to the new Student Success Center. BSB Air Handler Outage Nov 23

Air handler unit #77A and 77B that service the Biosciences Building (BSB) will be shut down from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 23, 2019, for repairs. The outage will affect heating, ventilation and air conditioning to the building. The LARC Vivarium is serviced by air handler unit #78 and will not be affected. BSE Exhaust Fan Outage Nov 23

Exhaust fan #8 that services the west side of the Biotechnology Sciences & Engineering Building (BSE) will be shut down from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 23, 2019, for repairs to the damper assembly. Static pressure will be reduced, to acceptable standards, in corridors 0.200 – 0.300, 1.400, 2.200, 3.200, and 4.200, during the outage. MB: Domestic Hot Water Outage Nov 12

UPDATE: 11/12/19 @ 11:20 – Hot water service to the MB has been restored.  

Domestic hot water service to the Main Building (MB) has been shut down this morning, November 12, 2019, for emergency leak repairs. The outage will affect hot water in restroom and breakroom sinks. Facilities Preparation for Inclement Weather – November 11, 2019

In anticipation of inclement weather associated with a cold front entering the San Antonio area on Monday, November 11, 2019, Facilities is preparing for rain, high winds, and freezing temperatures. If necessary, crews will be block-off walkways that accumulate ice to prevent injury. If you encounter an area blocked with caution tape or a barricade, please stay clear of the area. To report a facility or grounds concern requiring immediate attention, please contact the Facilities Service Center at (210) 458-4262 during normal business hours (Monday – Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.). After hours and on weekends, please contact Facilities Operations at (210) 458-5277.


City of San Antonio Frio Street Closure – November 19-25, 2019

UPDATE:  (November 12, 2019) – Due to the inclement weather forecast for this week, the City of San Antonio has rescheduled the Frio Street warranty work to begin on November 19, 2019.

On Tuesday, November 19, 2019 through Monday, November 25, 2019, from 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., the contractor will require intermittent lane closures on Frio Street while warranty/trench repair work is underway. To facilitate traffic, the contractor will keep one lane open. Frio Street will reopen each morning by 7:00 a.m. Please see the adjusted schedule below.

(November 8, 2019) – Facilities received notification from the City of San Antonio that repairs to Frio Street will begin on November 11, 2019. Please see the Frio Street closure information below.

Chavez Blvd. to Buena Vista St.) Closure – From Monday, November 11, 2019 through Monday, November 18, 2019, from 11:00 P.M. to 7:00 A.M., the contractor will require intermittently lane closures on Frio Street while warranty/trench repair work is underway. CC and HSU Green Space Closed for Construction Nov 18 – Dec 5

The green space common area located between the Convocation Center (CC) and the H-E-B Student Union (HSU) will be closed from November 18, 2019 through December 5, 2019, for installation of new drainage, bio-media and landscaping, as part of the City of San Antonio’s Proposition 1 Grant Paseo Principal StormWater Retrofit project. Construction fencing will be installed and detour signage posted around the work area to assist with pedestrian traffic. MS Third Floor Restrooms Closed Nov 15 – 18

The men and women’s restrooms, 3.02.04 and 3.02.02, located on the third floor of the Multidisciplinary Studies Building (MS) will be closed from 6:00 p.m. on Friday, November 15, 2019 through 12:00 p.m. on Monday, November 18, 2019, for construction related work. Alternate restrooms are located on the same floor in rooms 3.02.48 and 3.02.46. For additional information, contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.


DTC FS: Second Floor Restrooms Closed for Upgrades Dec 16 – Jan 10

The men and women’s restrooms, FS 2.428 and FS 2.426, on the second floor of the DTC Frio Street Building (FS) will be closed from December 16, 2019, through January 10, 2019, for upgrades.  Alternate restrooms are located on the same floor in rooms, FS 2.528 and FS 2.530.  For additional information, contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.

 


MS/FLN Ramp Closed for Renovation Nov 11 – Jan 14

The ramp located between the lower level of the Multidisciplinary Studies (MS) and the Flawn (FLN) buildings will be closed for renovation from November 11, 2019, through January 14, 2020.  A temporary ramp will be installed in the service drive (tunnel) and can be used to access the MS building beginning November 11, 2019, at 6:00 a.m.  For additional information, please reference the attached map/drawing or contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.

CC/IAB: Chilled Water Pump Outage Dec 17

The chilled water pump that services the Convocation Center (CC) and the Intercollegiate Athletics Building (IAB) will be shut down between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 17, 2019, for repairs.  The outage will affect air conditioning service to the CC and may affect service to the IAB if the isolation valve does not hold.   For additional information, contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.


MBT: Electrical Power Outage Nov 5

Electrical power to the Margaret Batts Tobin Laboratories (MBT) will be shut down from 2:00 a.m. until 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 5, 2019, for repairs to the 15kv switch that feeds the lab.  The outage will not affect emergency power. Urgent Notice – BSE Steam Outage Today Oct 25

Steam service to the Biotechnology Sciences and Engineering Building (BSE) will be shut down at approximately 4:00 p.m. today, October 25, 2019, for emergency leak repairs to the condensate line. Repairs are expected to be completed by 5:00 p.m. tomorrow, October 26, 2019. The outage will affect all processing lab equipment that is hooked-up to steam including auto claves and cage washers.
