MBT and LST Water Outage July 1

Water service to the Margaret Batts Tobin Laboratories (MBT) and the Large Scale Testing Laboratory (LST) will be shut down from 5:00 a.m. until 7:00 a.m. on July 1, 2019, as part of the Resident Parking Lot 5 utility upgrades. The outage will affect equipment in both buildings, including the BSL3, that use water. For additional information, contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.


City of San Antonio Buena Vista Corridor Project June 2019 – March 2020

The City of San Antonio (COSA) Buena Vista Corridor project is currently underway and is expected to go through March 2020.  Work, designed to improve pedestrian connectivity on Buena Vista Street between Frio Street and Santa Rosa Street, includes new sidewalks, lighting enhancements and the installation of a HAWK signal at Buena Vista Street and S. Leona Street. 

As part of the project, COSA will permanently close the Buena Vista Street entrance to the Cattleman’s Square parking lot on Monday, July 1, 2019.  The W. Commerce Street and I-10 frontage road entrances are now open and can be used to access the parking lot.  For additional information, reference the attached map or contact COSA’s project officer, Joey Doctor.

Urgent Notice: Main Campus Steam Outage June 24

Steam service to the Arts Building (ART), Business Building (BB), Bosque Street Building (BOS), Biosciences Building (BSB), Biotechnology Sciences & Engineering Building (BSE), Convocation Center (CC), Engineering Building (EB), Flawn Building (FLN), Intercollegiate Athletics Building (IAB), John Peace Library (JPL), Main Building (MB), McKinney Humanities Building (MH), Multidisciplinary Studies Building (MS), Recreation Wellness Center (RWC) and Student Union (SU) is down, today, June 24, 2019.  Repairs are expected to be completed by this evening at approximately 7:00 p.m.  The outage affects comfort heating, humidity control, domestic hot water for dishwashers, washing machines, and showers, BSE cage washer, and the BSE, FLN, and BSB autoclaves.  For additional information, contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.


Main Campus: Mandated Natural Gas Testing Outages July 6

Natural gas service to the following Main Campus buildings will be shut down for approximately one hour between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 6, 2019, for annual mandated testing.

Alvarez Residential Hall (ARH), Arts Building (ART), Business Building (BB), Bauerle Road Garage (BRG), Biosciences Building (BSB), Convocation Center (CC), Engineering Building (EB), Flawn Sciences Building (FLN), HEB Student Union (HSU),  Intercollegiate Athletics Building (IAB), John Peace Library (JPL), Laurel Village (LV), Main Building (MB), McKinney Humanities Building (MH), Multidisciplinary Studies Building (MS), North Thermal Energy Plant (NTEP), North Paseo Building (NPB), Recreation Wellness Center (RWC), Student Union (SU), Tobin Avenue Garage (TAG), and Ximenes Avenue Garage (XAG)

The outage will affect comfort heating, domestic hot water, autoclaves, kitchen equipment that uses natural gas, and emergency generators.   No other utilities, including electrical power, air conditioning, and compressed gases, will be affected.  For additional information, contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.

 


DTC Hot Water Outage June 28

Hot water service to the DTC Buena Vista Street Building (BVB), Durango Addition (DBA), Durango Building (DBB) and Frio Street Building (FS) will be shut down from 7:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Friday, June 28, 2019, for repairs.  The outage will affect equipment in these building that utilize hot water, including kitchen equipment.  For additional information, contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.

 


UTSA Campuses – State Required Elevator Inspections July 6 – 20

Elevators located in the Main, Downtown and HemisFair campuses will be inspected between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. each day beginning July 6, 2019 through July 20, 2019.  Elevators will be shut down one at a time for approximately fifteen (15) minutes.  Inspections requiring longer outages are not expected to exceed forty-five (45) minutes. Effective Immediately: MBT & LST Water Outage June 17

Water service to the Margaret Batts Tobin (MBT) laboratories and the Large Scale Testing (LST) laboratory will be shut down effective immediately June 17, 2019, due to a punctured water line. No other utilities are affected including electrical power and air conditioning. A follow up email will be sent once repairs have been completed. FLN Exhaust Fan Outage Scheduled for June 22 – 23

Exhaust Fans #2, 4, 8, 11, 17, 18, 19N, 19S, 22. 23W, 24, 25, 36, 37, 38, 41, 42, 43, 51, 52, 53, 54, 57, and 105 that service the Flawn Sciences (FLN) building will be shut down one at a time, between 6:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 22, 2019, and Sunday, June 23, 2019, for maintenance. Please do not use or store chemicals in fume hoods during the outage. No other equipment or utilities, including air conditioning and electrical power, will be affected. MS 3rd and 4th Floor Restrooms Closed for Upgrades June 20

The men’s (3.02.04 & 4.01.12) and women’s (3.02.02 & 4.01.10) restrooms located on the south side of the MS third and fourth floors will be closed between 7:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 20, 2019, for plumbing upgrades. West Campus Power Outage Sunday, June 16

Electrical power to West Campus buildings including the Business Services Annex (BSA), Center for Archaeological Research (CAR), Central Receiving & Warehouse (CRW), Concrete/Soil Laboratory (CSL), Facilities Services Building (FSB), Greenhouse (GH), Margaret Batts Tobin Laboratory (MBT), Power & Dynamics Systems Laboratory (PDS), Science and Engineering Laboratory (SEL), Science Research Labs (SRL), Sculpture/Ceramics (SC), and Support Services Facility A (SFA), B (SFB), C (SFC), D (SFD and E (SFE), will be shut down from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, June 16, 2019, for the transfer of temporary power. Barshop Road at West Campus Road Closed for Electrical Repairs June 13 – 14

Barshop Road, at the intersection of West Campus Road, will be closed to one lane today, June 13, 2019, from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and both lanes will be closed tomorrow, June 14, 2019, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for manhole electrical work. A crane will be placed near the manhole to assist with pulling electrical cables. Detour signage will be posted near the closure and flaggers will be on site to help direct vehicular traffic. JPL: Hot & Cold Water Outage Rescheduled for June 14

Shut down of the hot and cold water service to the JPL’s first, second, third and fourth floors has been rescheduled for June 14, 2019, from 5:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m., for plumbing modifications. The outage will only affect restroom sinks and toilets on floors one through four. For additional information, contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.


West Campus Power Outage – Facilities Service Center Relocated

UPDATE: Facilities has established stable, temporary power to the West Campus. Permanent repairs will be made to the main power distribution system over the next 3-4 days. While these repairs are being made, it is likely that Facilities will need to close part of Barshop Boulevard and schedule a temporary power outage. Separate notifications will be sent out to announce this work. A final notification will be made when all of the permanent repairs are made.

In addition, the Facilities Service Center has relocated back to its normal location and can be reached at extension 4262. For additional information, Please contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.

Power is out on West Campus due to a failed generator.  Facilities is working hard to fix this problem.  The Facilities Service Center has relocated to the Utility Operations Building until power is restored.  They are able to receive emails and service requests through the iService desk; however, their normal extension 4262 is not operational.  If you have an urgent issue that requires Facilities’ attention, please call extension 5277.  We will provide an update as soon as repairs are made.


JPL Air Handler Units 1 & 3 – Outage June 15

Air handler units #1 & 3 that service the JPL will be shut down, one at a time, between 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 15, 2019, for maintenance. The outage will not affect utilities and systems such as building comfort cooling, electrical power and exhaust. For additional information, contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.


MBT Sidewalk Leading to Main Entrance Closed June 10 – July 3

The sidewalk leading to the main entrance of Margaret Batts Tobin (MBT) laboratory will be closed from June 10, 2019 through July 3, 2019, for construction. BSB Steam Outage June 21

Steam service to the BSB will be shut down between 5:00 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. on Friday, June 21, 2019, for leak repairs. Work will be performed in rooms 2.03.26 (above ceiling) and 3.03.36. Autoclaves will be affected and will not be operational during the outage. There may also be occasional noise and disruption associated with the repairs. Hot and cold water service to the JPL first, second, third and fourth floors will be shut down from 5:00 a.m. until 7:00 a.m. on June 10, 2019, for plumbing modifications. Main Campus – Exterior Soft Washing June 6 – June 29

Exterior areas of the Main Campus will be soft washed from June 6, 2019 through June 29, 2019. Work will be performed each weekday after 3:30 p.m. and on weekends between 6:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Areas include the Arts Building (ART) courtyard; Biosciences Building (BSB) second level; Engineering Building (EB) second level; Flawn Sciences Building (FLN) entrance 2.01.10; John Peace Library (JPL) second level facing the MB, Main Building (MB); McKinney Humanities Building (MH) ground level north tunnel entrance and third and fourth floor courtyards and the Student Union (SU) lawn. BSB – Air Handler Unit #77B Shut Down June 19 – 20

Air handler unit #77B that services the BSB third floor will be shut down from 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 19, 2019 through 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 20, 2019, for repairs.  There will be no comfort heating available to the third floor during the outage.  No other utilities/equipment including ventilation, air conditioning and exhaust fans will be affected.  For additional information, contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.

 


Urgent Notice: DTC Cooling Towers Down June 5

The cooling towers that service the DTC Durango (DBB), Buena Vista (BVB), and Frio Street (FS) buildings went down today, June 5, 2019.  Facilities is currently working to make repairs and cool the buildings back to comfort levels.  For additional information, contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.
