LST: Condenser Coil Replacement – October 5, 2020

(September 29, 2020) – A condenser coil located on the roof of the Large-Scale Testing Laboratory (LST) will be replaced on Monday, October 5, 2020 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. A crane will be placed on the northwest side of the LST for lift operations. BSB: Exhaust Fan Replacement – September 30 – October 2, 2020

(September 29, 2020) – An exhaust fan located on the roof of the Biosciences Building (BSB) will be replaced from Wednesday, September 30, 2020 to Friday, October 2, 2020, with work to be performed daily from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The BSL 3 area will be without heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) during the exhaust fan replacement. A crane will be placed on the south side of the Ximenes Avenue Garage (XAG) on Wednesday, September 28, 2020 for lift operations. Portions of the sidewalk between the BSB and XAG and a sidewalk near the Applied Engineering and Technology Building (AET) will be closed during crane operations. Building occupants, especially those on the third floor, may experience noise during this maintenance project. BSE: Immediate Shutdown of Exhaust Fans 5, 6, and 7 – Monday, September 21, 2020

(September 23, 2020) – UPDATE: The exhaust fans (5/6/7) are operational. Fume hoods and other lab equipment can be used. We will need to make an additional repair to the sprinkler line, which will require us to shut down the fans again. However, we will send a notification in advance of the shutdown.

(September 21, 2020) – Exhaust fans 5, 6, and 7, in the Biotechnology Sciences and Engineering Building (BSE), will be shut down immediately to facilitate an emergency repair to a sprinkler line. These exhaust fans service laboratories on the southeast side of the building. Fume hoods are not available for use during this shutdown and building occupants will likely experience warmer room temperatures. We will make the repair to the sprinkler line as quickly as possible and send an email when the repair is complete and the exhaust fans are back in service. JPL: Air Handler Unit #1 Shutdown – September 24, 2020

(September 21, 2020) – Air Handler Unit #1 in the John Peace Library (JPL) will be shut down for maintenance from 5:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. on Thursday September 24, 2020. The outage should not affect building temperatures, as the remaining air handlers units in the building will be operating as normal and the work is being performed during the coolest part of the day. AET/ART/MH/BRG: Fire Panel Outage, September 28, 2020 – October 2, 2020

(September 21, 2020) – Upgrades to the fire panels located in the Applied Engineering and Technology Building (AET), Arts Building (ART), McKinney Humanities Building (MH), and the Bauerle Road Garage (BRG) will occur from September 28, 2020 to October 2, 2020. During the upgrade, Facilities and the UTSA Police Department will be unable to monitor the panels from a central location; however, the fire alarms will be operational and sound-off when needed. If the fire alarm sounds while you are in any of these buildings, please exit the building and contact UTSA PD Dispatch at 210-458-4911. AET: Exhaust Fan Maintenance – September 10 & 11, 2020

(September 8, 2020) – The exhaust fans in the Applied Engineering and Technology Building (AET) will be shut down for maintenance between 5:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., each day, on Thursday, September 10, 2020 and Friday, September 11, 2020. The outages will not affect daily operations, as only one unit at a time will be shut down. For additional information, please contact the Facilities Service Center at (210) 458-4262.


STEP (XAG) Maintenance: Portion of XL Closed for Staging Area – September 8 – October 2, 2020

(September 24, 2020) – UPDATE: The completion date of the STEP (XAG) maintenance project is extended to Friday, October 2, 2020.

(September 4, 2020) – A contractor will be replacing tubes for Boiler #2 in the South Thermal Energy Plant (STEP), located in the Ximenes Avenue Garage (XAG), from Tuesday, September 8, 2020 through Friday, September 25, 2020. Portions of the Ximenes Avenue Lot (XL), located on the west side of the XAG, will be used as a staging area for equipment, trailers, and vehicles. Pedestrians will not be able to use the sidewalk in the staging area and vehicle traffic along the west side of the XAG will have a reduced lane. Updated Urgent Notice – BSB Non-potable Hot Water Service Outage May 29

(September 3, 2020) – UPDATE: The delivery of a new boiler is taking longer than anticipated. We are hoping to receive and install a new boiler within the next four weeks. We will send out an update if we have further delay or when the repair is made, whichever comes first. We apologize for the inconvenience. (June 17, 2020) – Update: Non-potable hot water service to the BSB is still down for emergency repairs due to a boiler failure. Facilities is currently in the process of purchasing a new boiler.
Estimated time of purchase, delivery and installation is approximately six to eight weeks. A follow up email will be sent once the new boiler has been installed.

Non-potable hot water service to the Biosciences Building (BSB) is down today, May 29, 2020, for emergency repairs. The outage affects all laboratory sinks that use non-potable hot water. Repairs are expected to be completed by next week. A follow up email will be sent when repairs have been completed. For additional information, contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.


Main Campus: Compressed Air Outage

(September 4, 2020) – UPDATE: A backup air compressor was repaired last evening and providing compressed air to labs and other facility systems on campus. We are awaiting a part to repair the primary compressor and hoping to have it repaired soon. We will send a follow up email when the primary compressor is operational. Please call the Facilities Service Center, at (210) 458-4262, if you have any questions or concerns with the compressed air system. We apologize for the inconvenience.

(September 3, 2020) – Compressed air service for the Main Campus buildings (excluding West Campus) is down, to include laboratories. We hope to resolve this issue as soon as possible. Facilities will send a follow-up email notification when the repair is complete and compressed is restored. MB: Entrance 0.100-1 Closed for Repair

(September 22, 2020) – UPDATE:  The sliding glass door is repaired and available for use.

(September 3, 2020) – Main Building (MB) entrance 0.100-1, located on the south side of the building, is closed, as the sliding door is not functioning properly. We are awaiting parts and it may take several days to make the repair. We will send a follow up notification when the entrance is reopened. IAB: Pest Control Treatment – September 2, 2020

(September 2, 2020) – Pest control treatment of the Intercollegiate Athletics Building (IAB) second floor will occur on Wednesday, September 2, 2020 from 9:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Employees and students will not be allowed in the building during the treatment. In addition, the exterior of the building will be treated (power washed) from 9:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m., September 3, 2020.
