Unplanned Boiler Outage at SRL

Update (April 2, 2021) – Boiler 1 is has been repaired. All steam and hot water services are available at the SRL

(March 31, 2021) – Comfort heating and steam is down due to a boiler outage at the Science Research Laboratories (SRL). During the outage, autoclaves and any equipment that requires steam will not be available for use. Hot water will not be impacted.

We are working to restore the boiler outage as soon as possible. We will send an update when the issue is resolved.

Scheduled Air Handler Unit System Maintenance at the BSE

(March 31, 2021) – A routine preventive maintenance has been scheduled for the air handler unit system at the Biotechnology Sciences and Engineering Building (BSE). Work will begin on Monday, April 12 at 6 a.m. and end on Friday, April 16.

Throughout the maintenance, building occupants should not expect an impact to building air conditioning. This work will not affect the vivarium, as it is supported by a separate unit.

Business Building Lecture Halls & Classrooms Renovations

(March 31, 2021) – Facilities has begun renovations of 4 lecture halls and classrooms (2.01.06, 2.01.10, 2.01.14, 2.01.18) located in the 2nd floor of the Business Building. Work to renovate lecture halls is expected to be completed by August 20, 2021.

Throughout the renovations, building occupants will experience construction-related noises and minimal dust.

Classroom Renovations at Multidisciplinary Studies Building

(March 31, 2021) – Facilities has begun renovations of 2 classrooms (2.02.20 and 2.02.54) located in the 2nd floor of the Multidisciplinary Studies Building. These renovations are part of the “Pilot Classroom Project” and is expected to be completed by August 20, 2021.

Throughout the renovations, building occupants will experience construction-related noises and minimal dust.

Scheduled Exhaust Fan System Maintenance at the FLN Building

(March 31, 2021) – A routine preventive maintenance has been scheduled for the exhaust fan system at the Flawn Sciences Building (FLN). Work will begin on Monday, April 5 at 6 a.m. and end on Friday, April 9.

Throughout the maintenance, fume hoods will not be available for use, and chemicals should not be stored inside them. All other systems such as building power, air conditioning, and exhaust will not be affected.

Planned Generator Testing at AET

(March 25, 2021) – Facilities has scheduled generator testing at the Applied Engineering and Technology building (AET). The planned generator testing will begin on Friday, March 26 at 5 a.m. and end by 2 p.m.

During this time, all other systems such as building power, air conditioning, and exhaust will not be affected.

(March 24, 2021) – The comfort heating and domestic hot water system is down due to a leak at the Science Research Laboratories (SRL). During the outage, autoclaves and any equipment that requires steam will not be available for use.

Unplanned Domestic Hot Water Outage at Bosque Building

Update (April 1, 2021) – A significant repair is needed to restore hot water to the building.  We are awaiting delivery of parts and hoping to restore hot water in approximately three weeks.

(March 18, 2021) – The domestic hot water system is down due to system malfunction at the Bosque Building. However, cold water will remain available for use.

Business Building Lecture Hall & Classroom Renovations

(March 17, 2021) – Facilities has begun renovations of 4 lecture halls and classrooms located in the 2nd floor of the Business Building. Throughout the jackhammering phase, building occupants will experience loud noises and building vibrations.

Jackhammering in the 2nd floor will begin on March 22 at 7 a.m. and end by March 31 at 5 p.m. For additional information, contact the Facilities Service Center at (210) 458-4262.


Planned Non-potable Hot Water Outage at BSE

(March 12, 2021) – A planned maintenance at the Biotechnology Sciences and Engineering (BSE) building will require a non-potable hot water outage. During the outage, non-potable cold water and potable water for restrooms will be available for use.

The maintenance will begin on Wednesday, March 17 at 4 a.m. and end by 8 a.m. For additional information, contact the Facilities Service Center at (210) 458-4262.


Planned Air Conditioning Outage

(March 12, 2021) – Scheduled maintenance at the North Thermal Energy Plant (NTEP) will impact air conditioning in several buildings. See the list below.

The maintenance will begin on Monday, March 15 at 8 p.m. and end on Tuesday, March 16 by 4 a.m. Server rooms and data closets that use plant chilled water for cooling need to make necessary adjustments to protect their operations or equipment.

Alvarez Hall
Bosque Building
North Paseo Building
Graduate School and Research Building
Intercollegiate Athletics Building
Convocation Center
Recreation Wellness Center

Scheduled Exhaust Fan System Maintenance at the AET

(March 9, 2021) – A routine preventive maintenance is scheduled for the exhaust fan system at the Applied Engineering and Technology (AET) building. Work will begin on Wednesday March 10 at 5 a.m. and end on Wednesday, March 17.

Scheduled Lane Closures for UTSA Blvd. near Ximenes Ave.

(March 4, 2021) – The City of San Antonio is scheduled to begin construction of a median along UTSA Blvd., near Ximenes Ave., to improve traffic safety. Weather permitting, construction will start on Monday, March 15 at 7 a.m. and will end 30 days after the start date.

Lane closures will be necessary throughout the day and in some cases throughout the night. However, one lane in each direction will always be open to traffic.

Scheduled Intermittent Air Handler Unit Outages at BSE

(March 4, 2021) – Facilities will be conducting routine air conditioning maintenance at the Biotechnology Sciences and Engineering (BSE) building. During the maintenance, building occupants may experience short intermittent outages.

The scheduled maintenance will begin on March 8 at 6 a.m. and end on March 12 at 11 a.m. For additional information, contact the Facilities Service Center at (210) 458-4262


John Peace Library Restroom Closures – First Floor

(March 5, 2021) – The John Peace Library restrooms in the first floor will be renovated. During the renovations, restrooms 1.01.06, 1.01.09, and 1.01.12 will be closed and not available for use.

Restroom closures will begin March 4 and end on August 13. Attached is a map with labeled closures. JPL-1st-Floor-RR-Closure

Scheduled Comfort Heating Outage at AET and SEB Buildings

(March 15, 2021) – The five ADA parking spaces on the west side of the AET are now available for use.

(March 15, 2021) – The comfort heating at the Applied Engineering and Technology (AET) Building and Science and Engineering Building (SEB) has been restored.

However, five ADA parking spaces on the west side of the AET will remain blocked off and unavailable for parking until March 16. Attached is a map of the work area and affected ADA parking spaces for this project.

(March 3, 2021) – A scheduled comfort heating outage is planned for both the Applied Engineering and Technology (AET) Building and Science and Engineering Building (SEB). This outage is necessary to repair a leak at the main heating hot water loop.

Work will begin Sunday, March 7 at 7 a.m. and end on Saturday, March 13 at 10 p.m. During the outage, occupants might experience cooler temperatures. Additionally, five ADA parking spaces on the west side of the AET will be blocked off and unavailable for parking.

Scheduled Partial Closures for Bosque Street and Parking Lots

(March 3, 2021) – Air compressors at the Bosque Street Building, which support environmental controls and lab air throughout campus, need to be replaced. Repairs are scheduled for Saturday, March 6, 2021 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will require the partial closure of Bosque Street and two parking lots. The following lots and entrance will be affected.

• UTSA Police Department Vehicle Compound Adjacent to the Utilities/Operations Building – Closed from March 5 at 6 p.m. until March 6 at 5 p.m. All vehicles, with the exception of UTS service vehicles, need to be removed from the lot prior to the closure.

• Bosque Street Lot (first 12 slots on the west side) – Closed from March 5 at 6 p.m. until March 6 at 5 p.m. All vehicles need to be removed from the lot prior to the closure.

• Bosque Street at Brenan Avenue – Closed from March 5 at 6 p.m. until March 6 at p.m. The east entrance of Bosque Street at Cook Road will remain open.

Urgent Building Heating Outage at Recreation Wellness Center

Update (April 1, 2021) – A significant repair is needed to restore comfort heating to the building.  We are awaiting delivery of parts and hoping to restore comfort heating in approximately three weeks.

(March 3, 2021) – Due to problems with control valves that support heat exchangers, we are unable to maintain comfort heating in the Recreation Wellness Center. As a result, building occupants may experience cooler temperatures throughout the building.

We are working to resolve this issue as soon as possible and will send an update notice when comfort heating is restored to normal.

Urgent Domestic Hot Water and Comfort Heating Outage at Arts Building

(March 5, 2021) – Domestic hot water and comfort heating has been restored to the Arts Building. For additional information, contact the Facilities Service Center at (210) 458-4262.

(March 3, 2021) – A steam outage in the Arts Building (ART) has affected domestic hot water and comfort heating throughout the building. Due to the outage, there is no domestic hot water and occupants may experience cooler temperatures.

We are working to restore the domestic hot water and comfort heating outage as soon as possible. We will send an update when we resolve the issue.

Scheduled AC Outage at CDC Building

(March 1, 2021) – A scheduled air conditioning outage is planned for the Child Development Center. This outage is necessary to replace air conditioning units that have surpassed their life expectancy. During the outage, occupants might experience warmer temperatures.
