Unplanned Ventilation Control System Outage at BSE

(May 28, 2021) – The ventilation control system on the southside of the 2nd floor of the Biotechnology Sciences and Engineering Building (BSE) is down due to a main control failure.

During the outage, will not be able to control draft, temperature, or humidity levels in these areas. Occupants in the area should cease fume hood operations.

New Project Requests Will Be Accepted September 1, 2021

(May 28, 2021) – UTSA Facilities is committed to providing an enhanced student experience and a safe return to campus for the fall 2021 semester. At this time, our team is focused on high-priority projects that support the return to campus, including our Pilot Classroom project to create engaging classrooms for a variety of learning methods, preparing our HVAC systems to provide the highest possible air filtration, and more.

Due to the high volume of projects, we are unable to accept new project requests (including cost estimates) until on or after September 1, 2021. We appreciate your understanding and patience as we prepare to welcome our Roadrunners back to campus. Unplanned Hot Water Outage at FLN

(May 26 2021) – The hot water system is down due to a failed valve at the Flawn Sciences Building (FLN).

During the outage, there will be no heating hot water or domestic hot water.

AC Outage at BSB

(May 26 2021) – The air handler unit at the Biosciences Building (BSB) has been repaired and operational. Air conditioning to the building has been restored.

(May 25 2021) – An air handler unit at the Biosciences Building (BSB) is experiencing technical issues and has disrupted air conditioning to the building.

During the outage, occupants might experience warmer temperatures.

Boiler Outage at MBT

(May 25, 2021) – The boiler at the Margaret Batts Tobin Laboratory Building (MBT) has been repaired. All steam and hot water services are available at the MBT.

(May 24, 2021) – Steam is down due to a boiler outage at the Margaret Batts Tobin Laboratory Building (MBT). During the outage, autoclaves will not be available for use. Hot water will not be impacted.

We are working to restore the boiler as soon as possible. We will send an update when the issue is resolved.

TxDOT Loop 1604 Lane Closures

(May 21, 2021) – The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) moved forward with the Loop 1604 Expansion Project.

Below is a list of scheduled lane closures.

  • Wednesday, June 2 until Friday, June 11. Weekdays 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Single lane closure on westbound frontage road from I-10 to La Cantera Parkway for right of way preparation.
  • Wednesday, June 2 until Friday, June 11. Weekdays 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Alternating shoulder closures on westbound frontage road from I-10 to Bandera Rd. for right of way preparation.
  • Sunday, May 23 until Friday, June 18. Weeknights 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Alternating eastbound single mainlane closure, including the entrance ramp from SH 16 and exit ramp to Hausman Rd., for restriping and barrier setting. DETOUR: Traffic will be directed to use Kyle Seal Parkway entrance ramp and the exit ramp before Bandera Rd.
  • Sunday, May 23 until Friday, June 18. Weeknights 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Alternating eastbound mainlane closure, including the entrance ramp from Kyle Seale Parkway and exit ramp to Babcock Rd., for restriping and barrier setting. DETOUR: Traffic will be directed to use the entrance ramp after Babcock Rd. and the exit ramp before Hausman Rd.
  • Sunday, May 23 until Friday, June 18. Weeknights 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Alternating eastbound mainlane closure, including the exit ramp to La Cantera Parkway/Chase Hill, for restriping and barrier setting. DETOUR: Traffic will be directed to exit before Babcock Rd.

Note, no two consecutive ramps will be closed at the same time.


Sombrilla Fountain Deep Cleaning on May 25

(May 21, 2021) – Deep cleaning is scheduled for the Sombrilla Fountain on Tuesday, May 25 from 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. During the cleaning, we will shut down the fountain to vacuum and clean the basin.

Planned Natural Gas Testing for Main Lines & NTEP

(May 13, 2021) – As mandated by the State Fire Marshal Office (SFMO), planned natural gas testing for the main gas lines and the North Thermal Energy Plant (NTEP) is scheduled for Saturday, June 12 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

During the testing, natural gas to all UTSA buildings and the NTEP will be shut down in small segments. Therefore, comfort heating, domestic hot water, autoclaves, kitchen equipment using natural gas, and emergency power generators will not be available for use.

All other utilities, including other compressed gases, will remain operational and available for use.

The following buildings will not be affected by the natural gas outage.

  • Chaparral Village
  • Chisholm Hall
  • University Oaks
  • Roadrunner Café
  • South Thermal Energy Plant
  • H-E-B Student Union
  • Xiemenes Avenue Garage

(May 10, 2021) – It has come to our attention that our beloved Rowdy statue needs some space. Together, we can help by standing 6 feet apart and not climbing his statute.

TxDOT Construction on Loop 1604 Expansion Project

(May 7, 2021) – The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is moving forward with the Loop 1604 Expansion Project. Over the next few weeks, drivers will see message boards and signs along the corridor in preparation for construction.

Special Activities & Moves Temporarily Unavailable

(May 7, 2021) – Spring Commencement set up begins Wednesday, May 12 and ends on Saturday, May 16. During this time, Special Activities & Moves services will be unavailable for routine move requests.

Planned AC Maintenance for MH, FLN, JPL, and ART Buildings

(May 7, 2021) – Planned air conditioning maintenance to increase air circulation in buildings will begin Tuesday, May 11. The work will be performed daily from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Affected buildings include the McKinney Humanities Building (MH), Arts Building (ART), Flawn Sciences Building (FLN), and the John Peace Library (JPL).

During the maintenance, air handler units will be turned-off intermittently and building occupants may experience temperatures warmer than normal.

Planned Cold Water Outage for GSR

(May 6, 2021) – A cold water system maintenance is scheduled for the Graduate School & Research Building (GSR) on Tuesday, May 11 from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

During the maintenance, a cold water outage will be needed to repair the system.

Classroom Renovations at UTSA

(May 6, 2021) – Facilities has begun renovations of classrooms throughout UTSA. These renovations are expected to be completed by August 20, 2021.

Throughout the renovations, building occupants will experience construction-related noises and minimal dust. Attached is a complete list of classroom renovations.

Planned Natural Gas Outage at Chisholm Hall and the Activity Center

(May 3, 2021) – A broken service valve that provides natural gas to the Chisholm Hall and the Activity Center will be repaired on Wednesday, May 5 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

During repairs, a short natural gas outage will affect domestic hot water and building heating hot water.

Rescheduled AC Outage at Chisholm Hall and the Activity Center

(May 6, 2021) – The scheduled maintenance at Chisholm Hall and the Activity Center has been rescheduled to Friday May 7 at 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
