(Jun 23, 2020) – The Roadrunner Memorial Garden (RMG) was established in 2017 as an idea from the UTSA Student Government Association (SGA) to honor the memory of Roadrunners that have passed away. The RMG is located at the UTSA Oval near the entrance to the Main Campus and constructed of a paved oval plaza, bounded by a semi-circular stepped stonewall that frames three flagpoles in the center of the wall. This first phase of the RMG serves as a memorial assembly area.
The SGA envisioned a second phase of the garden as an inspirational place with comfortable seating surrounded by memorial stones bordered by glow-in-the-dark stones that illuminate for two to three hours after sunset. On May 29, 2020, the Facilities Planning and Development team added eighteen chairs and seven tables under the oak trees of the garden. The furniture, a beautiful red, compliments the North Paseo Building fiesta red accent color. The memorial and glow-in-the dark stones may be funded by the SGA in the future, completing the second phase of the RMG and solidifying the student’s vision for the garden.
