(June 30, 2017) – Facilities is in the final stage of completing a project to improve fire and life safety in the John Peace Library (JPL). Fire rated doors and glass were carefully integrated into the architecture of the building to provide smoke and fire protection to occupants without negatively affecting the look and function of the library. The new partitions have the added benefit of providing sound dampening between spaces to improve the study environment for students. A new stair guardrail system with tempered glass and gold trim not only offers improved fall protection, but also improves the appearance of the library. Facilities thanks EHS&RM for their support throughout the project and the patience of the library staff as these improvements were implemented.
