Unplanned Steam Outage – RWC

(July 19, 2024) – An unplanned reduction in steam pressure has become necessary at the Recreation Wellness Center (RWC), which could lead to cooler air and water temperatures throughout the building.

Facilities is currently working to correct the issue and expects to have the building’s steam system working at full capacity by Tuesday, July 23.

State-Required Elevator Inspections to begin July 15

(July 9, 2024) – Annual state-required inspections of UTSA elevators will be taking place from Monday, July 15 through Friday, July 19 between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. each day. During the inspections, elevators will be shut down one at a time for approximately 30 minutes to an hour in order to minimize any impact. This work is being done in order to ensure all elevators are in safe working condition and compliant with state regulations and codes.

Planned Exhaust Maintenance – SRL

(July 9, 2024) – A planned maintenance of the exhaust systems at the Science Research Laboratories (SRL) is scheduled for 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 20. While the work is being performed the general exhaust and fume hoods throughout the building will not be operable.

During the outage fume hoods in labs will not be available for use and sashes must remain closed. Additionally, no chemicals should be stored inside fume hoods during this period.

Unplanned Electrical Outage – DTC

(June 26, 2024) – Due to unforeseen issues, an unplanned electrical outage occurred affecting multiple buildings located at the Downtown Campus (DTC) this afternoon. The power has been restored and Facilities personnel are currently checking all buildings to ensure everything is properly running.

Main Campus Window Cleaning

Window cleaning has been scheduled for multiple buildings across the Main Campus. Cleaning will take place between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. through the months of May, June and July. While the cleaning is underway, building entrances will remain fully open, and there should be no impact to campus operations. The window cleaning schedule is as follows:

Reverse Osmosis Water Outage – MBT

(June 12, 2024) – Due to mechanical issues, an unplanned outage of the reverse osmosis (RO) water system has occurred at the Margaret Batts Tobin Laboratory (MBT). During the outage RO water will remain available for use, but will be using the backup storage tank which is expected to last until the RO system is repaired.

Facilities is currently working to correct the issue and expects to have the building’s RO water system fully restored by 4pm today.

Unplanned Cooling Outage – RACE

(June 6, 2024) – Due to mechanical issues, an unplanned reduction in comfort cooling has occurred at the RACE Building (RACE), leading to higher than normal temperatures in the weight room and adjacent areas of building.

Facilities is currently working to correct the issue and hopes to have the building’s cooling system working at full capacity as soon as possible.

Unplanned Cooling Reduction – FS

(June 5, 2024) – An unplanned reduction in comfort cooling has occurred at the Frio Street Building (FS), leading to above average humidity and higher than normal temperatures throughout the southern section of building.

Facilities is currently working to identify and correct the issue and hopes to have the building’s cooling system working at full capacity as soon as possible.

Unplanned Restroom Closure – FLN

(May 31, 2024) – Due to plumbing issues, an unplanned closure for the 4th floor restrooms located at the Flawn Sciences Building (FLN) has become necessary. This closure will occur from May 31 through June 5. During the closure Facilities will conduct repairs to the building’s plumbing.

Unplanned Cooling Outage – ART

(May 30, 2024) – Due to mechanical issues, an unplanned reduction in comfort cooling has occurred at the Arts Building (ART). This outage is necessary in order to perform emergency repairs to the building’s cooling system. During the outage building occupants may experience higher than normal building temperatures.

Facilities is currently working to correct the issue and expects to have the building’s cooling system repaired by 12 p.m. this afternoon, May 30.

Planned Natural Gas Testing

(May 22, 2024) – As mandated by the State Fire Marshal Office (SFMO), planned natural gas testing will begin Wednesday, May 29 and end by Friday, May 31.

During the planned testing, natural gas to buildings will be shut down in small segments. Therefore, comfort heating, domestic hot water, autoclaves, kitchen equipment using natural gas, and emergency power generators will not be available for use.

Facilities will coordinate the exact date and time of each shut down with building occupants prior to testing.

Unplanned Cooling Outage – MH

(May 21, 2024) – Due to mechanical issues, an unplanned reduction in comfort cooling has occurred at the McKinney Humanities Building (MH). This outage is necessary in order to perform emergency repairs to the building’s cooling system. During the outage building occupants may experience higher than normal building temperatures.

Facilities is currently working to correct the issue and expects to have the building’s cooling system repaired by 11 a.m. this morning, May 21.

Planned Steam Outage – Main Campus – Multiple Buildings

A planned steam outage for multiple buildings across the Main Campus is scheduled for 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, May 24. This outage is necessary for Facilities to conduct repairs on the buildings’ steam system.  The following buildings are affected by the outage:

During the outage, building residents may notice a drop in temperature. The outage will also affect the hot water in all buildings, including autoclaves and cage washers in laboratories.

Planned Water Outage – MB

(May 10, 2024) – A planned water outage at Main Building (MB) is scheduled for 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29. This outage is necessary for Facilities to conduct repairs to the buildings’ plumbing system.

During the outage building occupants will experience a loss of water pressure throughout the building.

UPDATE: Reduced Comfort Cooling – BSB

(May 8, 2024) – The mechanical issues causing reduced comfort cooling to the third floor of the Biosciences Building (BSB) have been fixed. Temperatures within the building should be returning to normal levels and the building’s doors should no longer be more difficult to open due to the differences in pressure between inside and outside.

(May 7, 2024) – Due to mechanical issues, a comfort cooling outage has occurred on the third floor of the Biosciences Building (BSB). Facilities anticipates repairs to be completed during the day tomorrow, Wednesday, May 8.

While repairs are underway, building occupants will experience slightly warmer temperatures and increased negative pressure, making doors more difficult to open. Please note that the Vivarium and BSL 3 areas are not impacted by this outage.

Planned Bus Loop Closure – Main Campus

(May 8, 2024) – A planned closure of the bus loop located in front of the North Paseo Building on the Main Campus is scheduled from Monday, May 13 through Sunday, May 26. This closure is necessary for Facilities to conduct repairs to the asphalt as well as the surrounding concrete and pavers.

During the closure buses will be temporarily redirected to the turnaround located off of Margaret Tobin Ave a few hundred feet to the northwest.

Planned Water Outage – MB

(May 6, 2024) – A planned water outage at Main Building (MB) is scheduled for 5 a.m. to 7 a.m. on Friday, May 17. This outage is necessary for Facilities to conduct repairs to the buildings’ plumbing system.

During the outage building occupants will experience a loss of water pressure throughout the building.

Planned Tree Trimming – SWC

(May 3, 2024) – Planned tree trimming around the Southwest Campus (SWC) is scheduled for 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily from Monday, May 13 through Thursday, June 13. This is necessary in order to remove dead tree limbs and aesthetically improve the campus.

While the work is taking place building occupants should not experience any disruption to normal activities and will continue to have sidewalk and ADA access.

Unplanned Sombrilla Fountain Maintenance – Main Campus

(April 23, 2024) – Beginning on Tuesday, Apr. 23, the Sombrilla fountain will be drained and shut down for maintenance. Facilities will restore normal fountain operation as quickly as possible.

Planned Gas Shutdown – SRL and Small Animal Laboratory

(April 23, 2024) – A planned gas shutdown at the Science Research Laboratories (SRL) and Small Animal Laboratory is scheduled for 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, Apr. 25. This outage is necessary for Facilities to conduct repairs to the buildings’ gas main.

During the outage gas burning appliances, building heat and domestic hot water will be unavailable throughout both laboratories.
