UPDATE: Unplanned Comfort Cooling Reduction
(March 13, 2025) – The mechanical issues previously affecting comfort cooling at the McAllister Ceramics Building (MCB), Tobin Building (TOB) and Urschel Administration Building (UAB) at the Southwest Campus have been repaired and comfort cooling has been restored to all buildings.

(March 10, 2025) – Due to mechanical issues, an unplanned comfort cooling reduction has occurred at the McAllister Ceramics Building (MCB), Tobin Building (TOB) and Urschel Administration Building (UAB) at the Southwest Campus.
Facilities is working to correct the issue. Until repairs are complete, occupants in the affected buildings may experience higher than normal temperatures.

Planned Restroom Closures
(March 7, 2025) – During spring break, Facilities will replace soap dispensers in restrooms, break rooms and designated lab spaces across all campuses. Work will begin on Monday, March 10 and will continue through Monday, March 17.
During this time, restrooms will be closed for less than one hour while the dispensers are replaced.

Unplanned Power Outage
(February 27, 2025) – A brief, unplanned power outage occurred across the west part of the Main Campus and at the Roadrunner Café this afternoon. Facilities is working as quickly as possible to identify the cause of the outage and to restore all affected equipment.

Unplanned Power Outage – Main Campus
(Feb. 25, 2025) – A brief, unplanned power outage occurred across the Main Campus this afternoon, causing comfort cooling units at multiple buildings to temporarily shut down. Facilities is working as quickly as possible to identify the cause of the outage and to restore all affected equipment.

Unplanned Steam Outage – Biosciences Building (BSB)
(Feb. 14, 2025) – Roadrunners,
An unplanned steam system outage has occurred at the Biosciences Building. During the outage, building occupants will be unable to use autoclaves and cage washers in laboratories due to the lack of steam. Heating and cooling in the building will not be affected.
Facilities is working to correct the issue as quickly as possible.

(Feb. 14, 2025) – The upcoming, planned steam outage at the Main Campus has been rescheduled for 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 23. This outage is necessary for Facilities to conduct repairs on steam systems located throughout campus.
During the outage, building occupants may notice some fluctuation in building heating, humidity control and water temperature. This outage will also affect the use of autoclaves and cage washers in laboratories due to the lack of steam.

(Jan. 30, 2025) – Due to mechanical issues, an unplanned loss of comfort cooling has occurred at the Frio Street Building (FS) on the Downtown Campus.
Occupants may experience higher than normal temperatures until the cooling is fully restored. Facilities is working to correct the issue as quickly as possible.

Unplanned Heating Outage – Southwest Campus (Multiple Buildings)
(January 22, 2025) – Due to mechanical issues, an unplanned loss of heating has occurred at the Urschel Administration Building (UAB), Tobin Building (TOB), Negley Building (NEG) and the McAllister Ceramics Building (MCB). Occupants may experience reduced temperatures throughout the buildings until the heat is fully restored.
Facilities is currently working to correct the issue and hopes to have the buildings’ heating system repaired as quickly as possible.

Update: Unplanned Electrical Outage – DTC
(Dec. 4, 2024) – Due to unforeseen issues, an unplanned electrical outage occurred this morning at the Downtown Campus (DTC) affecting all buildings with the exception of MNT.
Power crews from CPS Energy quickly responded and power has now been restored. For more information, contact Facilities Service Center at (210) 458-4262.
(Dec. 4, 2024) – Due to unforeseen issues, an unplanned electrical outage occurred this morning at the Downtown Campus (DTC) affecting all buildings with the exception of MNT. Power crews from CPS Energy are aware and working to get the power restored. CPS is hoping to restore power by 10:45 a.m.
Generators are running to support emergency power for lighting in stairwells and corridors and any equipment to be supported by emergency power.

Planned Limited Door Access – Biotechnology Sciences and Engineering Building
(Dec. 3, 2024) – A planned closure of the door leading to the loading dock at the Biotechnology Sciences and Engineering Building (BSE) is scheduled for 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. from Wednesday, Dec. 4 through Friday, Dec. 6. This closure is necessary for Facilities to install equipment on outside of the loading dock door (BSE 1.700).
During the closure, building residents will still be able to access the door before and after the scheduled work hours mentioned above, but not while the work is taking place.

(Nov. 22, 2024) – Due to mechanical issues, an unplanned loss of heating has occurred at the Engineering Building (EB) and Biosciences Building (BSB). Occupants may experience reduced temperatures throughout the buildings until the heat is fully restored.
Facilities is currently working to correct the issue and hopes to have the buildings’ heating system repaired as quickly as possible.

Unplanned Restroom Closure – DBB
(Nov. 19, 2024) – Due to an equipment malfunction, an unplanned restroom closure at the Durango Building (DBB) has become necessary. During the closure, the restrooms located on the building’s subfloor will be unavailable until repairs are completed. Restrooms on all other floors will remain open for use.
Facilities is currently working to correct the issue and hopes to have the restrooms reopened as soon as possible.

Planned Comfort Heating/Cooling Reduction – AET
(Nov. 18, 2024) – A planned reduction in comfort heating/cooling affecting the Applied Engineering and Technology building (AET) is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 21. This reduction is necessary for Facilities to perform repairs on the building’s HVAC equipment.
While the work is being performed building occupants will experience minimal impact to heating and cooling due to backup HVAC units.

UPDATE: Unplanned Cooling Reduction – MNT
(Nov. 19, 2024) – The issue affecting the availability of comfort cooling at the Monterey Building (MNT) has been fixed. Temperatures and humidity throughout the building should be returning to normal levels shortly.

(Nov. 18, 2024) – An unplanned loss of comfort cooling has occurred at the Monterey Building (MNT), leading to higher than normal temperatures throughout the building.
Facilities is currently working to identify and correct the issue and hopes to have the building’s cooling system working at full capacity as soon as possible.

Unplanned Restroom Closure – BVB
(Nov. 13, 2024) – An unplanned closure of the first floor and basement restrooms at the Buena Vista Street Building (BVB) has become necessary due to a sewer line break.
Facilities is currently working to correct the issue and hopes to have the building’s restrooms available as soon as possible.

Planned Exhaust Maintenance – MBT
(Nov. 11, 2024) – A planned maintenance of the exhaust systems at the Margaret Batts Tobin Laboratory Building (MBT) is scheduled for 6 a.m. to 7 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 14. While the work is being performed lab exhaust will be unavailable throughout the building.
During the outage fume hoods in labs will not be available for use and sashes must remain closed. Additionally, no chemicals should be stored inside fume hoods during this period.

Planned Exhaust Maintenance – SRL
(Nov. 4, 2024) – A planned maintenance of the exhaust systems at the Science Research Laboratories (SRL) is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 12. While the work is being performed the general exhaust and fume hoods throughout the building may have limited capacity. The use of fume hoods should be avoided if possible during the outage.

Planned Heating Reduction – BSB
(Oct. 29, 2024) – A planned heating reduction affecting the Biosciences Building (BSB) is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 31. This reduction in heating is necessary in order to perform required maintenance on the building’s heating equipment.
While the work is being performed building residents may experience slightly colder temperatures as comfort heating will be reduced.

Unplanned Water Outage – DBB
(Oct. 25, 2024) – Due to a SAWS water main break, an unplanned domestic water outage has occurred at the Durango Building (DBB). During the outage, drinking water and water in restrooms will unavailable until SAWS completes repairs.
Crews are currently working to correct the issue and expect to have the building’s water fully restored this evening between 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.

Unplanned Power Issue – Multiple Locations
(Oct. 25, 2024) – Due to an issue with a main transmission line, areas around San Antonio, including all UTSA campuses, are encountering brief power outages. Depending the severity, these outages can impact our networks and building systems.
UTS, Security Services and Facilities are actively monitoring and responding to these issues as CPS and ERCOT seek to resolve the underlying problem.
