Main Campus Ground Survey Work to Begin on April 14th

Survey work utilizing ground penetrating radar (GPR) equipment will be performed from April 14, 2017 through April 16, 2017 in designated areas east of the BSE (along Paseo del Sur), south of the AET/BSE (Ford Lot) and Bauerle Road Lot 1.  Work will consist of GPR operators pushing a mobile unit along these areas to locate existing underground utilities that will support the new Science and Engineering Building.  Staff will also be on-site to assist with re-routing vehicular traffic as necessary.  For Additional information, please reference the attached drawing or contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.

Devine Avenue Parking Lot Closed for NTEP Project

The Devine Avenue Parking Lot, including four (4) Facilities FCMS, seven (7) Reserved, two (2) Handicapped and seven (7) NTEP contractor (Win-Sam) slots, will be closed from 7:00 p.m. on April 6, 2017 until 1:00 p.m. on April 7, 2017 to allow equipment vehicles access to the North Thermal Energy Plant (NTEP) for delivery and installation of a new fan gear box.  The OIT slots located on the northeast corner of the parking lot will remain open for use – heavy traffic in and around these slots may cause access delays.  For additional information, please contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.


DTC: Renovation of MNT Café

Renovation to expand the Café located in the Monterey Building (MNT) is scheduled to begin on April 17, 2017, with anticipated completion by August 25, 2017.  The renovation will include the removal of an existing exterior wall and the addition of approximately 800 square feet of air-conditioned space between the annex and the original building.  During construction the sidewalk and entrance to the MNT, via the annex corridor, will be closed.  The front and side entrances (with few exceptions) will remain open for use throughout the duration of the project.  For additional information, please reference the attached drawing or contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.

DTC: MNT Annex Domestic Water Shut-down on April 6th

Domestic water service to the Monterey Building (MNT) annex first floor Café, restrooms and fountains will be shut-down on Thursday, April 6, 2017 for construction.  Only domestic water to the annex will be affected.  Water to the rest of the MNT will remain operational and available for use.  Water service will be restored immediately following completion of work or by no later than 5:00 p.m.  For additional information, please contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.


DTC: Renovation of MNT 1st Floor to begin on March 31, 2017

Work to renovate the DTC Monterey (MNT) building first floor annex, rooms 1.103.A.6, 1.103A.7,  1.103A.8, 1.03B.8, 1.103B.9A, 1.107 (men’s restroom) and 1.111 (women’s restroom) is scheduled to begin on March 31, 2017 with anticipated completion by August 1, 2017.  Alternate restrooms located on the first floor (right of the elevators), rooms 1.132 and 1.133, will be available for use during construction.  For additional information, please reference the attached drawing or contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.

DTC: Renovation of Rooms on First Floor of Durango Building Scheduled to Begin on April 3rd

Renovation of rooms, 1.116, 1.120, 1.204G, 1.204, 1.118, 1.112 and 1.124 (gallery area only),  located on the first floor the DTC Durango Building is scheduled to begin on April 3, 2107 with anticipated completion by August 11, 2017.  For additional information, please reference the attached map of the construction area or contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.

Construction of Two New Parking Lots Scheduled to Begin April 3rd

Construction of two new parking lots are scheduled to begin on April 3, 2017 and go through August 25, 2017.  Construction of the lot located on the corner of Tobin Ave., and Brenan Ave., across from the Road Runner Café, will include partial lane closures from mid-April to May.  Construction of the lot located between Cocke Dr. and Devin Ave., north of the Business Building (BB), will include sidewalk closures, re-routing of pedestrian traffic and partial lane closures from April to mid-June.  Both construction sites will be closed-off by construction fencing and signage will be posted in and around the locations to assist with re-routing pedestrian traffic.  Flag staff will also be on-site, as needed, to assist with re-directing vehicular traffic.  For additional information, please reference the attached maps or contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.

Update 4/11/17:  The curb area located on the corner of Cocke Dr. and the entrance to the JPL loading dock will be closed-off to parking. “No parking” signage will be posted along the curb.  Please reference the updated map for more information on the location of the closure.

Traffic Congestion/Delays: Barshop Blvd. Entrance at UTSA Blvd., March 20 – April 3

The ongoing construction on UTSA Blvd. is expected to cause traffic congestion and delays at the Barshop Blvd. entrance to UTSA for the next couple of weeks (see attached map).  It’s recommended that drivers use alternate routes to enter and exit the Main Campus from March 20 until April 3, 2017.

NTEP: Crane Operations

A crane will be set-up in the west driveway of the NTEP on Friday, March 17, 2017 between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. to facilitate unanticipated maintenance of a gear box.  Flag staff will be onsite to assist with re-routing pedestrian and vehicular traffic if needed.   For additional information, please reference the attached map or contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.

The Devine Avenue Parking Lot, including four (4) Facilities FCMS, seven (7) Reserved, two (2) Handicapped and seven (7) NTEP contractor (Win-Sam) slots, will be closed tonight, March 16, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. and will re-open on Friday, March 17, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. to allow equipment vehicles access to the North Thermal Energy Plant (NTEP) for removal of a failed gear box on Cooling Tower #4.  The OIT slots located on the northeast corner of the parking lot will remain open for use – heavy traffic in and around these slots may cause access delays.  Signage, indicating the closure, will be posted at the entrance of the parking lot.  For additional information, contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.


BSA: West Campus Building to be Painted during Spring Break

Work to paint the exterior of the west campus Business Services Annex (BSA) began on March 13, 2017 – work is expected to be completed by March 17, 2017.   Affected areas including entrances (only closed-off on side being painted) and parking and pedestrian paths will be barricaded and moved/adjusted as painting progresses around the building.   For additional information, contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.


Sombrilla: Cleaning of Exterior Floors, Steps and Walls

Work to clean the exterior floors, steps and walls of the Sombrilla is scheduled from 6:30 p.m. until 12:00 a.m. each day between Monday, March 13, 2017 and March 18, 2017.  Work, including the removal of mold and stains and re-sealing of surfaces, will be performed one section at a time.  Each section will re-open once work has been completed.  For additional information, please contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.


BOS: Domestic Hot Water Shut-down for Maintenance

Domestic hot water service to the Bosque (BOS) building will be shut-down on March 17, 2017 from 7:00 a.m. until approximately 4:00 p.m. for maintenance.  The shut-down down will not affect daily operations as all equipment and cold water service will remain operational.  Hot water to the building will be turned back on immediately following completion of work or by no later than 4:00 p.m. on March 17th.   For additional information, please contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.


Barshop Blvd. Entrance at UTSA Blvd. Closed March 13 – 17

The Barshop Blvd. entrance at UTSA Blvd. will be closed from March 13, 2017 through March 17, 2017 (see map below).  The City of San Antonio is shutting down the intersection to perform subgrade prep/work and storm drain installation as part of the road work on UTSA Blvd.  During this time, the intersection will be closed-off to UTSA incoming and outgoing traffic.  The entrance may open sooner if the work progresses faster than expected.  For additional information, please visit the city’s Transportation & Capital Improvements website at http://www.sanantonio.gov/TCI/Projects/UTSA-Blvd-Project#189721582-work-updates or contact the Project Officer, Richard Casiano, at richard.casiano@sanantonio.gov.

Two NTEP Steam Outages Scheduled as Part of Boiler Addition Project

Steam service provided by the North Thermal Energy Plant (NTEP) will be shut-down from 1:00 a.m. on March 11, 2017 until 11:00 p.m. on March 12, 2017 and again from 10:00 a.m. on March 14, 2017 until 2:00 a.m. on March 15, 2017 for work related to the NTEP boiler addition project.  The outages will affect comfort heating (except BSE), dishwashing, mop sinks, showers, autoclaves, cage-washers and other equipment utilizing steam in the following buildings:  BSB, BSE vivarium, Main, JPL, ARTS, UC, EB, FLN, MS, MH, BB, PE, BOS, CC and RWC.  Steam service will be restored on March 12th at 11:00 p.m. following completion of the first outage and again on March 15th at 2:00 a.m. following completion of the second outage.  For additional information, please contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.


EB: Air-handler Units Shut-down for Maintenance

Air-handler units that service the Engineering Building (EB) will be shut-down between 6:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 11, 2017 and again on Sunday, March 12, 2017, for routine maintenance.  The outages are not expected to impact daily operations as only one unit at a time will be shut-down.  All units will be turned back on following completion of work each day at 2:00 p.m.  For additional information, please contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.


NTEP: Crane and Equipment to be Delivered March

A crane will be set-up and electrical equipment delivered, via 18-wheeler, at the North Thermal Energy Plant (NTEP) on Friday, March 3, 2017 between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. as part of the boiler addition project.  Flag staff will be onsite to assist with re-routing pedestrian and vehicular traffic including the UC loading dock – vehicles accessing the area can expect delays.  For additional information, please reference the attached map or contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.

JPL: Sliding Doors on East-side of Building to be Replaced on March 13th – 19th

Work to remove and replace the sliding doors located on the east-side, first floor, of the JPL is scheduled from March 13, 2017 through March 19, 2017.  During this time, the doors will be closed-off and unavailable for use.  Alternate doors are located on the north-side (loading dock) and west-side (food court) of the building.  The doors will re-open for use on March 19th.  For additional information, please reference the attached photo or contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.
