BSA – Fire Alarm Upgrades September 6

Work to upgrade the fire alarms in the BSA is scheduled for Thursday, September 6, 2018, between 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.  Upgrades include relocations and new installations.   Work will not affect access to offices and work areas.  For additional information, contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.

 


CDC – Water Shut Down at 5:00 p.m. on Aug 31

Water service to the CDC will be shut down today, August 31, 2018, at 5:00 p.m. to repair a leak.  Service is expected to be restored by approximately 7:00 p.m.  For additional information, contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.

 


MBT – Crane Set Up Rescheduled for Oct 5

Update 9/26/18:  The following work has been rescheduled for Friday, October 5, 2018, from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., due to wet ground/weather conditions. 

Update 9/24/18:  weather permitting; two “Reserved” (not “A”) parking spaces in front of the MBT will be blocked on Friday, September 28, 2018.  

A small crane will be set up in the rear of the MBT building and two “A” parking spaces located in front of the fire lane will be blocked from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on September 14, 2018, as part of the motor and vacuum replacement project.  Utilities are not affected by the work and staff will be available to assist with pedestrian traffic, as needed.  For additional information, contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.

 


BB (2.03.04) Women’s 2nd Floor Restroom Closed Friday, Aug 31

The women’s restroom on the second floor of the BB (2.03.04) will be shut down on Friday, August 31, 2018, from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., for repairs/upgrades.  The alternate women’s restroom is located in the 2.05 corridor behind the elevators.  For additional information, contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.

 


NPB 1st Floor and BB 2nd Floor Restrooms Closed Saturday, Aug 25

The men’s (1.218) and women’s (1.224) restrooms on the first floor of the NPB and the men’s (2.03.04) and women’s (2.03.10) restrooms on the second floor of the BB will be shut down on Saturday, August 25, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. until approximately 11:00 a.m. for repairs/upgrades.  Alternate restrooms in the NPB are located across from the elevators on the second floor and alternate restrooms in the BB are located in the 2.05 corridor behind the elevators.  For additional information, contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262. 

 


DTC: New Frio Street Crosswalk

The new crosswalk from the Frio Street Building to the Monterey Building is operational. The new crosswalk, part of the city’s ongoing improvements to Frio Street, contains a Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon, also known as High-Intensity Activated crossWalK (HAWK). The HAWK is an overhead flashing signal that is activated by a pedestrian and utilizes yellow and red lights to warn drivers when a pedestrian is crossing the roadway. For personal safety, pedestrians crossing Frio Street should only cross the street at crosswalks. Additional Frio Street crosswalks are located at the corners of W. Cesar E. DTC: FS Building Fire Alarm Testing Aug 17 & 20

Testing of the DTC Frio Steet Building newly installed fire alarm devices is scheduled for Friday, August 17, 2018 and Monday, August 20, 2018.  Testing will be performed each day between 5:30 a.m. and 7:15 a.m. and will include intermittent sounding of the audio equipment alarm sirens and voice warnings.  An intercom announcement will be made prior to the start of testing.  For additional information, contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.

 


SEB Related Intermittent Closures Aug 20 – Nov 28

10/25/18 Update:  The following intermittent closures and work to install the overhead hangers and chilled and hot water pipes have been extended through November 28, 2018.

The north BSE loading dock and walkway that link to the Paseo del Sur and the BSE/EB covered walkway located below the plaza level will be intermittently closed in preparation of SEB tie in work.  Installation of overhead hangers above the BSE loading dock and walkway is scheduled from August 20, 2018 through September 7, 2018 and installation of overhead chilled and heating hot water pipes above the BSE/EB covered walkway is scheduled from September 10, 2018 through November 11, 2018.  Scissor lifts will be used to perform the installations. Flag and spotter personnel will also be used to assist with vehicular and pedestrian traffic.  Work will not affect access to the BSE and EB.  For additional information, reference the attached drawing or contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.

XAG – Exterior Sign Installation Aug 30

A portion of the southwest side of the Ximenes Avenue Garage (XAG) will be closed, for one day only, beginning at 6:00 p.m. on August 30, 2018, for installation of a new exterior building sign.  A lift will be used during installation.   Work will not affect access to or from the garage.  For additional information reference the attached map or contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.

Main Campus – Tree Trimming August 3 – Sept 17

Tree trimming work at the Main Campus began on August 3, 2018 and will go through September 17, 2018.  Work includes trimming and removing dead branches and ball moss on trees located along walkways, paseos and parking lots.  Construction tape and cones will be used to cordon off the work areas. Paseo del Sur Closure Continues Through December 31, 2018

The partial closure of the Paseo del Sur (Paseo) will continue through December 31, 2018, as part of the ongoing construction of the new Science and Engineering Building (SEB) and the installation of a bridge that will connect the SEB to the west side of the Paseo. During the closure, there will not be a continuous route along the Paseo del Sur from the Ford Avenue Lot bus stop to the ART and EB, as well as the staircase between the ART and FLN.  Pedestrians will need to detour through the AET, BSE and EB alternate walking paths. A temporary sidewalk will be installed to supplement the primary path and signage will be used to assist with detours. DTC – Atrium Window Cleaning Aug 9 – 12

Work to clean the windows and check the bird netting located between the DTC FS building, Bill Miller Plaza and the Atrium, north and south, starts today, August 9, 2018 and ends on Sunday, August 12, 2018.  Thursday (Aug 9) and Friday (Aug 10) work will be performed in the evening beginning at 6:00 p.m.  A 60-foot lift will be in place for the duration of the work.  For additional information, contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.

 


Crane Set up – Ximenes Avenue Parking Lot August 11

A crane will be set up in the Ximenes Avenue Lot (XL) on Saturday, August 11, 2018, in support of the STEP project to repair a cooling tower gearbox.  The lot drive lanes south of the STEP will not be accessible to vehicular and pedestrian traffic between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on Aug 11.   Safety barriers and flag personnel will be posted in and around the work area to assist with traffic.  For additional information, reference the attached map or contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.

MB – Water Sprinkler Work Scheduled for Saturday, Aug 11

Work to install new water sprinkler heads located on the first and second floors of the MB lobby will take place on Saturday, August 11, 2018, between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.  Construction tape will cordon off the work area and a lift that will be used to access the sprinklers. Construction near SU Roundabout Aug 6 – 17

Work to move part of the sidewalk north of the Student Union (SU) roundabout closer to the fire hydrant, as required by state and local fire codes, will begin on August 6, 2018 and end on August 17, 2018.    Roads will remain open.
