Frio St. Project Update:  Houston Street and Frio Street Partially Closed June 1, 2017

The City of San Antonio will shut down a portion of Houston Street and Frio Street on June 1, 2017 from 7:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. for CPS and water main work related to the Frio Street project.  Houston Street will be shut down both ways from Frio Street to Leona Street for CPS work.  Vehicular traffic will be detoured to Martin Street.

The south bound right lane of Frio Street will be closed from Commerce Street to Buena Vista Street for water main work.   Once that work has been completed the south bound right lane will reopen and the north bound right lane be closed for continued work.   Frio Street will remain open to two lanes throughout the partial closures.  Per the City of San Antonio, “all work is subject to favorable weather conditions.”


Summer Cleaning of Main Campus Sidewalks, Stairs and Walkways

This summer the sidewalks, stairs and walkways located throughout the Main Campus will be cleaned.  Work will include the removal of mold and stains and re-sealing of surfaces.  Tape will be used to cordon-off the area during cleaning.  It will be removed once the process is complete.  For additional information, please contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.


Fall Semester 2018 Facility Modifications Deadline

Departments that desire facility modifications to be completed before the beginning of the Fall 2018 semester are encouraged to submit a work request to the Facilities Service Center no later than June 30, 2017.  The early submission of facility renovations requests is key to timely project completion, as these types of projects can take a long time due to space planning, programming, design, and construction requirements.  Additionally, complex projects often require extensive coordination with outside vendors and contractors, adding to the overall project timeline.

Landscape Work between the UC and PE Buildings to Start June 1st

UPDATE: 6/14/17 – The project completion date has been extended to June 30, 2017.

The greenbelt located between the UC and the PE buildings will be closed from June 1, 2017 through June 21, 2017 for landscape work that includes enhancing the drainage conditions of the area and creating an accessible pathway to and from the UC Chili’s patio.  Barricades will be installed outside of the PE building and at the edge of the Chili’s patio to cordon off the work area.  For additional information, please reference the attached map or contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.

JPL – East Entrance Shut Down for Repairs

The JPL east entrance will be shut down from May 31, 2017 to June 4, 2017 for stucco repairs.  The entrance will reopen for use following completion of repairs on June 4th.  For additional information, please reference the attached map or contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.

UC: Chili’s Patio Closed for Repairs

The UC patio located adjacent to Chili’s will be closed today, May 16, 2017, from 7:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. for repairs.  Work includes partial paver removal, leveling of base material and paver re-installation.  For additional information, please contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.


BSB: Air Handler Units Shut Down for Preventive Maintenance

Air handler units that service all floors of the BSB, excluding the BSL3, will be shut down on Saturday, May 27, 2017 between 6:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. for maintenance.  Work is not expected to impact weekend operations as only one unit at a time will be shut down.  For additional information, please contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.


Main Campus: SEB Construction Begins 5 June, 2017 – Multiple Closures

Construction of the new Science and Engineering Building (SEB) will begin on June 5, 2017 with site preparation and underground utility work.  To accommodate construction, the greenbelt located east of the BSE and south of the ART, service drive entry adjacent to the ART, portions of Bauerle Rd Lot 1, Ford Rd Lot and Ximenes Ave Lot, and part of the Paseo del Sur will be closed as indicated in the schedule below.  Temporary pedestrian sidewalks will be installed along Bauerle Road and between the ART and Paseo del Sur.  The sidewalks will open on June 12, 2017 and will remain in place for the duration of the project.  All closures will be cordoned off with construction fencing and directional signage will be posted at each site.  For additional information, please reference the attached map, visit the Facilities website at http://facilities.utsa.edu, or contact the Facilities Services Center at 458-4262.

Ximenes Ave. at UTSA Blvd. Closed to One Entry/Exit Lane Beginning May 22nd

Ximenes Ave., at UTSA Blvd., will be shut down to one entry and one exit lane from May 22, 2017 to August 17, 2017 as part of the construction project to realign the road.  Barricades and fencing will be placed in and around the closures to assist with vehicular traffic.  The road is expected to reopen to two entry and exit lanes by start of the fall semester.  For additional information, please reference the attached maps or contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.

FLN: Renovation of Lecture Halls and Restrooms Began May 10th

Work to renovate lecture halls 2.01.12, 2.03.12, 2.02.06 and restrooms 2.01.16A & 2.01.14A in the FLN began May 10, 2017 and is expected to be completed by August 21, 2017. EB: Remodeling of Lecture Hall 2.04.06

Work to remodel lecture hall 2.04.06 in the EB is scheduled to begin on May 15, 2017 with anticipated completion by June 15, 2017.  Upgrades will include the removal and installation of new furniture.  The existing furniture will be removed and temporarily placed in a trailer located on the Paseo del Sur side of the building.  For additional information, please reference the attached map or contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.

JPL: Staircase Closed for Construction

The interior staircase leading from the second to the third floor and part of the third floor walkway located in the JPL will be closed off from May 11, 2017 to May 12, 2017 and from May 15, 2017 to May 19, 2017 for construction.  Noise from the use of cutting and abatement equipment may be experienced during various phases of the project.  To access floors, please use the interior elevators and alternate staircases.  For additional information. please reference the attached map or contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.

MH & EB: Lecture Hall Upgrades

Construction in the MH (2.01.12) and EB (2.04.06) lecture halls is scheduled to being on May 10, 2017, with anticipated completion by August 18, 2017.  Work will include upgrades to seating, lighting, HVAC systems and carpeting.  Construction materials for both buildings will be staged on the Paseo level of the MH.  For additional information, please reference the attached map or contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.

MS: Air Handler Units Shut Down for Maintenance

Air handler unit #44 that services the south side of the MS will be shut down between 6:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 20, 2017 and air handler unit #45 that services the north side of the building will be shut down between 6:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 21, 2017 for maintenance.  Work is not expected to impact weekend activities as other units will remain operational during the shutdowns.  For additional information, please contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.


TEP Parking Lot Closed for NTEP Related Work

The TEP Parking Lot, including four (4) Facilities FCMS, seven (7) Reserved, two (2) Handicapped and seven (7) NTEP contractor (Win-Sam) slots, will be closed from 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 12, 2017 until 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 13, 2017 to allow equipment vehicles access to the North Thermal Energy Plant (NTEP) for installation of a new boiler.  The OIT slots located on the northeast corner of the parking lot will remain open for use – heavy traffic in and around these slots may cause access delays.  For additional information, please contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262


Policy Changes to University Vehicle Parking in Front of the MB

Recent policy changes to university vehicle and golf cart parking in front of the Main Building (MB) go into effect May 10, 2017.  The changes, including relabeling of existing spaces and short term and all day parking options, were made to help alleviate congestion and to accommodate university vehicles conducting business in and around the building.  For additional information, please reference the attached policy or contact Campus Services at 458-7275 or at parking@utsa.edu.

Main Campus Steam Outage for NTEP Upgrades

Steam provided by the North Thermal Energy Plant (NTEP) will be shutdown from 10:00 p.m. on Friday, May 12, 2017 until 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 13, 2017 for upgrades.  The outage will affect comfort heating (except to the BSE), dishwashing, mop sinks, showers, autoclaves, cage-washers and other equipment utilizing steam in the following buildings: ART, BB, BOS, BSB, BSE vivarium, CC, EB, FLN, JPL, Main, MH, MS, PE, RWC and UC.  Steam service will be restored immediately following completion of work or by no later than 10:00 p.m. on May 13th.  For additional information, please contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.


FLN: Portion of Breezeway (loggia) Closed for Lecture Hall Renovation Project

A portion of the Flawn Building (FLN) breezeway (loggia) will be closed-off from May 3, 2017 until May 18, 2017.  The space, located on the north side of the building, will be used as a staging area for scaffolding material.  For additional information, please reference the attached map or contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.

ART: Air-handler Units Shut Down for Maintenance May 13th

Air handler units #48 and #16 that service all floors of the Arts Building (ART) and unit #49 that services the Recital Hall and stage area will be shut down on Saturday, May 13, 2017 between 6:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. for preventive maintenance.  During the shutdowns, there may be periods of decreased air-conditioning to all floors.  Air-conditioning to the Recital Hall and stage area will not be affected as other units in the areas will remain operational.  All units will be turned back on immediately following completion of work or by no later than 2:00 p.m. on May 13th.  For additional information, please contact the Facilities Service Center at 458-4262.
